Life After graduating from the U.S. Naval Academy I spent 14 years in the Navy as a Civil Engineer Corp. Officer. I got out in 1988 and went to work for Apple Computer where I spent 16 years and was most recently Director of a worldwide business unit. I retired from Apple in 2004 but decided to come out of retirement in 2005 and joined Motorola as Director, Global Developer Programs out of our Silicon Valley office. In October 2007 I was promoted to head up Software Platforms and Ecosystem Operations for Motorola. When Motorola Mobility was purchased by Google, I managed that transition for the company. I left my most recent role as Senior Director of Sunnyvale Site Operations at Google in the spring of 2013 and decided to retire. We spend our working lives really trying to make a difference and in doing so hoping that we can provide a happy future for ourselves and our families. At first I found it difficult not getting up and going to work every day. But then I came to the conclusion that I have been successful in my professional career because I always dedicated myself 110% to my job, and that in order to be successful in retirement I need to be just as dedicated. So now I get up each morning and am dedicated to enjoying my life and my family. I get to do all of those things that I always wanted to do but never had the time to do while I was working.
