Doug's Story
Life
I left the Ft. Walton Beach area in late 1976 and graduated High School in Pompano Beach Florida. Joined the U.S. Air Force in 1979 where I chose a career in aviation. I retired from the Air Force in 2003 and have been living in Mobile Alabama for the past five years and now work as the nightshift lead avionics technician on Delta Airlines Airbus A319/320 aircraft.
College
I began my college education in 1977. From there, I took classes whenever I had the chance and finally earned an AS Degree in Avionics Systems Technology and a BS Degree in Business Administration with a Specialty in Technical Management.
Workplace
After 23 years in the Air Force, I had to start all over in the private sector. I started working for a contractor as a senior avionics technician at Mobile Aerospace Engineering and now currently the Lead Avionics Mecha...Expand for more
nic on the nightshift for Delta Airlines A319/320 airliners. I prefer the hands-on approach and absolutely hate working behind a desk. To me, it's much more important work in a field you like than be employed in a job you don't even if it means earning less money but it's even better when actually earn more.
Other Activities
I've been photographing things ever since I was a kid starting out with a little Kodak Instamatic. Now, I have a couple of Nikon Digital SLRs I use for both regular and Infrared photography.
I also became interested in amatuer astronomy back when I lived in California. It's sort of my way with communing with nature.
Recently, I completed a project for the USS Alabama Battleship Memorial Park. It consisted of repairing a four and a half foot long museum display model that was severely damaged a couple of years ago.
