Doug's Story

Classmates.com profile story "Hi Folks, After leaving Ada High, I attended East Central in Ada, then Oklahoma University (1963), then East Central again (Ada), got married to Sue Cradduck. We have been married for 59 years. From East Central in Ada, we went to Central State (Edmond, OK) in 1965 to finish my BA in Psychology. We moved to Fayetteville, AR to attend graduate school in Psychology at the University of Arkansas (1965-66). During my Ada (East Central) years, I worked in the Emergency Room at Valley View Hospital. I worked in the ER for 4 years, even when I was attending school at OU, I would work any weekend that I was in Ada. I met some really nice friends and girl friends during those years, and still have contact with a few and would enjoy hearing from the others. I enjoy hearing from past friends whether they we in my class or not. I also wonder how they are doing now and wish the best for every one of them. At 80, I have become sentimental about friends from my past, and I am eager to know that everyone is doing OK. From the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville, AR, we moved to St. Louis, MO. I worked at a Psychiatric Hospital and decided that was not for me, then became a pharmaceutical rep for 5 years for A.H. Robins. During those years, I was known by my first name Jerry D. Smith. About the time I was 29, I figured out what I really wanted to do when I grew up, so we sold our house, gave back the company car, and went back to school in photography to change careers.. Whew!! Follow all that? Just FYI: A.H. Robins Company had no equal in good ethics and good treatment of those who worked hard for them...Expand for more
. I owe the Robins folks a debt of gratitude for the excellent life experience. Wish they were still a company of today. My Commercial Photography career spanned 30 years of corporate advertising photography for national clients such as Anheuser Busch, Energizer, Ralston Purina, Fox Network, fur and jewelry companies, and Ad Agencies. I loved almost every minute of it. Now retired, we have an RV and travel when we can. My mantra: "Retirement is not overrated." Ada Jr. High School: During Jr. High, I enjoyed ridding my Cushman Eagle motor scooter with friends and enjoyed Ham Radio as a hobby. I still have my call sign K5KKN today but am not active in radio these days. Ada High School: My high school experience was mixed. I did not run with the crowd, so to speak, and I primarily worked to earn money for my first car soon after my 16th birthday, and enjoyed dating two very special nice girls. Now, our Class of 60 group has become a close knit extended family and we get together every Sunday for a zoom meeting. Lots of friendly conversation about the past and present. Our classmate Marilyn has been instrumental in keeping the Ada High class of 60 connected. We owe her a debt of gratitude. About all those Colleges.... Well, College was great. Every minute of it. ....... Just kept changing majors ..... Great friends and great social life. A quantum leap forward from high school. Worked hard, partied hard, went to several colleges over those years, and gained from each experience. Variety is spice of life, ya know !!! I would love to visit by email or Facebook with friends from my Ada High, East Central, ER, and OU days.

Today would be my dad's birthday and 2 days ago was mom's. They were dating in this 1933 photo and married in 1935. They stayed together until June 1984 when they died 2 days apart. Neither knew that other was gone. ...O

One of my special Art Director/Artist clients from my studio days. Happy to say, still a friend today.
Looking forward to viewing the Texas Bluebonnets this year and visiting a few friends and cousins. Here is a painting by my Aunt Norma Leslie featuring the Bluebonnets.
Visited my long time good friend, Bob Hunt, in Cadillac, MI last week. Bob and I did photoshoots for General Motors in the 70s. Bob was the technical expert, and has been my automotive and diesel advisor ever since. Good ti
