Doug's Story

We lived close enough to the school that we could walk or take the school bus. N. Piedmont St. I remember taking piano lessons that were offered after school. School had good memories. Father was posted to the Canadian Embassy as Military Attache from 1960 to 1964. I was in Grade 2 in 1964. Family returned to Canada in the summer of '64. riendly. At the time , being young , I didn't fully appreciate the tumultuous era we were living through. The Soviets had one of the first, if not the first, satellites orbiting the earth. My father took us outside to watch at night as it slowly passed overhead. The beloved president JFK assassinated. I still remember exactly what I was doing when told. Civil Rights movement. Cuban Missile Crisis. And here we were right in the middle of it.
