Douglas's Story

Life As any good white suburban boy did I went off to college. Dropped out for two years, spent them workin' and red-neckin' around the mountains of ol' Virginnie, went back to school eventually earning MA in Chinese Literature from U of Michigan. Went out to Seattle to Ph.D., switched over to education, ended up back here teaching high school social studies and Chinese at Plainedge HS since 1985. Married, no kids (I think, anyway . . . been around a bit) Fanatic dog person; current best friend an adopted Yellow Lab named Buddy Rosh. to have a Cherokee all modified for the trail lifted with big tires and all kinds of traction equipment underneath, looked like a bomb hit it from all the "trail-side body-work." Now driving a Wrangler Rubicon. I've revived my love affair with Chinese language and culture, and am immersing myself in reading Chinese philosophy, history and linguistics again. And I'm still a counter-culturist in my heart of hearts: come the revolution, folks, first we get the lawyers, then the insurance guys. At the point of contemplating retirement, and my real objective now is just tranquility.
