Douglas's Story

Life Hi, Guys! How do you summarize 30 years in a few lines? Wow. Well, after graduation from GCHS, I went to Hope College in Holland, MI. Majored in English, and actually did work as a newspaper reporter - for about six months - after graduation. Kept running cross-country and Track in college, then "graduated" to running 5Ks, 10Ks and a handful of marathons afterwards. Still try to run the Peachtree Road Race here in Atlanta each year, but the hills keep getting steeper and it seems they make each mile longer than they used to. ;) Married The Most Wonderful Person I've Ever Met - the former K'ythrn (Kathy) Williams in 1987. An Upstate New York girl, my Aunt (who worked with her in retail) introduced us in 1984. We never had kids, but do our best to spoil our dogs terribly: we currently have a little Shih-Tzu named Angel. Sometimes she lives up ...Expand for more
to her name, but other times!... We've been living in the Atlanta area since 1990. Kathy grew up living on Seneca Lake and misses the Lake and the snow, so we may yet get back there, but so far, we've stayed where my work is. After five years of being an insurance adjuster like my Dad and deciding that was not how I wanted to spent the rest of my life, I went back to school in 1986, getting an MBA in accounting from Cornell U's Johnson Grad School of Management in 1988. I've been in the electric utility industry since graduation, and am currently working as a controller and analyst for a small consulting firm in the area. My boss is a former friend from church and one of the nicest guys I know, so I feel very blessed and am very thankful. Hope you have a Great Day and hope to hear from you all sometime soon! Blessings, Doug Irons GCHS Class of 1977

Tomorrow, April 1st, would have been my wife Kathy's 70th birthday. So thankful for the almost 37 years we were married, and while her passing was incredibly difficult, I am also thankful that she is in heaven with Jesus an
