Douglas's Story

After graduating from high school, I went onto college and studied broadcasting and business management. Between 1991 - 1999, when I wasn't attending a class, I was working in Radio as an overnight DJ at Y-100 and WAXY 105.9 (now Big 106), as a Talent Coordinator for charitable events like Hurricane Relief & Comic Relief, a Production Coordinator for several films and concerts, an Audio Director & TV Cameraman, as well a Film and Video Editor. In June 1999 I married Jami Spohn which was followed by the birth of our sons Devon in December 1999 and Ryan in March 2002. Just an update... shortly before September 11th, 2001, I stopped working in the field of advertising. After nearly 4 years, I wanted something more stable. Having become a husband, father, and with the approaching birth of my second son, I wanted stability. I am now working as the Director of Customer Relations for a mortgage company in south Florida. It has taken some getting used to but there have been a lot of benefits that have only made the changes all the more valuable. Unlike working in the advertising industry, which was not a normal 9-5 like schedule, I now maintain a somewhat structured schedule and receive a very decent salary. At the same time, I am able to be a full time father who is completely active and involved in the lives of his sons. In many ways, I am a professional from 9am - 5pm, and then Mr. Mom at the home. Sometimes I feel that my day job is a lot easier than my job as daddy... but I definitely wouldn't change a thing. If I had staye...Expand for more
d in the advertising industry, many things would be very different. Being where I am now allows me the opportunities to do a lot of great things with my family. I am a cub scout leader for both of my sons Cub Scout Pack. At the same time, I am able to attend various school and sports related activities - getting involved in really shaping them from the good boys they are now, into the successful men of tomorrow. Sometimes... I have to be reminded that I am very lucky and need to do more with them - appreciating them and their youth. I am not just saying this because I am a very proud father - but I really do feel blessed to have 2 beautiful, loving, caring, intelligent, and healthy children. God knows what I would have missed had I not met and married my wonderful wife. She was the best thing to ever come into my life and that too I sometimes forget. She is definitely my better half, my rock, and my life. Life has definitely had its ups and downs. We have had those ultimate highs and... by the grace of God - have only had a few real short term manageable lows. Well, now that I seem to have opened my life a bit... as if I were at a Tony Robbins self-help seminar (LOL), I think this is the moment to bring this article to a close. If for only the time being. To all of my classmates from Jefferson Township (New Jersey) and Coral Springs (Florida), I truly hope your lives have been as enriched and as blessed as I feel mine has become. Take care of yourselves and God bless you all. Please feel free to contact me anytime....
