Doyle's Story
Life
Hello My Friends! Thank you for stopping to visit. Graduation seems so long ago but Jon McMullen's words ring true: "...this IS the Real World we live in..."! After Graduation, I spent no time getting out of the Portland area & Attended ITT Technical Institute in Phoenix, AZ for a Broadcast-Communications Degree. Returning to Portland, I went to work with a local Night Club as a Deejay while working full time in St. Vincent Hospital's Radiology Department. In 1990, I enlisted with the USAF, which introduced me to new cultures & areas of this world. It's amazing how little we know, until we actually experience the situation first-hand! I was stationed at Maxwell Air Force Base in Montgomery, Alabama with the 42nd Medical Group's Hospital Services Command Section. Air Force Life was a great fit for me and allowed me the opportunity to really live! I was married in 1993 and everything seemed to be perfect & the way life should be. I followed my passion for cars, collecting a vast array of classic muscle cars & 4x4 trucks. I have also raced on the amateur circuit, both Drag-Racing and on some of the finest NASCAR/SCCA tracks in the Deep Southern States. However, this would be my undoing... The last 10 years have been a blur for me and it's hard to believe so much has happened. On November 5th, 1996 I got hit by a Top-Fuel Dragster at the NHRA Drag strip in Montgomery, Alabama. The accident shattered my right leg, crushed my skull & put me in a coma for 3-weeks. I Lived life in a wheel-chair for the next year, going through rehab to re-learn how to walk. Once I regained the ability to walk without aid, the...Expand for more
re were some definite changes waiting for me to face. I tried to return to the life that I knew but these changes had affected my attitude and drive because of the anger which had built up inside of me. These attitudes destroyed my marriage and I lost what I had hoped would be forever. I have learned that communication is so important and neccessary if you really believe something is worth fight for! After the divorce I began to try many different things to fill the void that had been left by the losses I had suffered and many, if not all, were unsuccessful! Changes had to be made in my life...
In 1999 I returned to Oregon to reinvent myself and start over fresh. There were still many issues that had to be dealt with and the Department of Veteran Affairs was instramental in helping me accomplish these changes. The last 11 years have been a very hard road but I can see the Sun on the horizion and my days are always looking brighter! I currently own a home in Beaverton, Oregon. The VA has me rated at 85% disabled(you couldn't tell by looking at me!), 3 cars & A Beautiful Siberian Husky named Sheena help keep the joy in my life. Also, currently I am involved with a 1987 Graduate from Evergreen High School(Rival, Traitor...Me? LOL!) She has two little girls and I am learning so much about myself through them! We will have to see what the future has in store for us as the time moves forward!
I am looking forward to enlarging my circle of friends and possibly re-new some old friendships. Our 20-year class reunion is rapidly approaching and I will not miss it for the world! I'll be seeing "Y'all" soon!
