Dr. Tom's Story
Life:
I am retired from teaching in Delaware. I have been a missionary pastor and school administrator in the Washington DC area. Previous to 2005, I served as a pastor, college department chairman and professor in Michigan. In addition, we have served in churches in Illinois, Wisconsin, Michigan, Maryland and Delaware.
Carol and I have been married 44 years (yes to the same woman!) and we are parents of 4 wonderful adult children. They are all grown and on their own. One daughter is married. We have four grandchildren.
We live in Jackson, Michigan.
School:
I really enjoyed my years at Thornton even with all of the teasing I received during my Freshman year by some of the seniors. Yes, I have forgiven all of you. I have great memories and friends. Some of us still stay in touch. I wouldn't mind an email from you either. Its great to reconnect with old friends.
During my senior year at TTHS (1969), Mrs. Harms counseled me to not go to college. She said I would never make it. Boy was she wrong.
I earned a BA in Psychology, Bible and education in 1980. Receiving my MBA in 1997, I continued on to earn a doctorate in Christian counseling in 2002.
In high school, there were too many things going on in my life that discouraged and distracted me.
When I trusted Jesus Christ as my Saviour in April of 1970, my life took a dramatic turn for the best.
Acknowledging God's call to the ministry in August of that year (1970), I left DeVry Institute of Technology for Moody Bible Institute the following June (1971) to prepare to be a minister. Later, I attended Prairie State College for a semester and a Bible college in...Expand for more
Indiana before graduating in June, 1980 from Tennessee Temple University in Chattanooga, TN.
I have a broad backgound in ministry, technology, psychology and business. You can be a success if you let Jesus Christ become the center of your life and home.
I'm not a religious nut or fanatic, just a sincere Christian willing to share God's Word with anyone who will listen. Jesus Christ is very real to me.
We're reaching out to people like you who need to know God personally through His Son, Jesus.
College
College? Yes I attended college.
DeVry Institute of Technology in Chicago.
Moody Bible Institute of Chicago.
Prairie State College in Chicago Hts., IL
Hyles Anderson College in Indiana
Tennessee Temple University in Chattanooga, TN - BA
Baker College of Muskegon, MI - MBA
Andersonville Theological Seminary, GA - doctorate
While laying plans to start the church in Bowie, MD, I taught Bible and speech at a Christian school near Washington, DC. On March 1, 2008, our school board asked me to be the new administrator. I was known to students and staff as Dr. O. I stepped down as administrator to become a pastor in New Castle, Delaware during 2009 .
During 2010-2012, we have been teaching, primarily in speciial education as well as assisting a pastor and friend in New Castle, DE. We love working especially with autistic children. Special children are neat and want to learn and be loved. Academic abilities vary greatly. You would be surprised at the how many special needs children go on to be productive adults.
Let's reconnect!
