Drew's Story
Life
Life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness...same attitude with my typical unique perspective/outlook...
Did not date or all in HS (was too busy partying and actually doing school work too -kinda funny combination) though it would appear that even through my erroneous choices in women I have fared EXTREMELY well... Tell you what though, a dog and a cat seem much less materialistic and voice thier needs in a striaghtforward manner...hell, ok so I am divorced (yeah, it sucks, and would not wish that crap upon my worst enemy) everything I have is my own and I have no freaking kids...I mean jeez, I still feel like a damned kid myself so why would I want to burdeon myself or bring up a kid in this screwed up world...besides, I would probably kill them as they would wind up turning out to be bigger jerks than me...ha ha ha...
AS you can probably tell (if you have read down to this point) I am still pretty much the same opionated a$$hole I have always been...except MUCH more refined and pretty freaking experienced...societal age -in the 90s though my chronological age is much younger...can you say bumps in the road...yeah, screw that, get a bigger truck ha ha ha...
Though eternally the hopeful optomist, this is well balanced by my realistic 'black and white' view of things...
Did not really figure I would make it to my mid-thirties, though it is not all bad...I think I have done well/aged well though judge for yourself...
Anyways, on with those pursuits...as hell, life is far too short for me to try and get into everything I find interesting and the clock is ticking...
School
Back in the day...yeah, did not date though I was interested in a few of the girls back then...perhaps I should have said something, though I tell you what...I don't regret a damned thing...
Did plenty of stupid crap...hell, partied soooooo much that much of my Sophmore and Junior years are kind of a blurrrrrrr...but hey, I was smart enough to quit and make my lame goals before I graduated...ok...so Mr. Stasi was right...but damned was it fun... Yeah, I only used probably 10% of my brain back then like a dumba$$ and achieved my paltry 3.0 GPA like I intended (at the least) though I always knew I could have crushed anyone academically if I had really WANTED too... Like I said though...I do not regret it a bit...I had a chance to and really did enjoy my childhood...thanks for that Mom and Dad; you guys rock...
College
Again, this is probably my only regret...and that is not finishing my degree...though, I will...just a matter of when...
Ms. Lea was right...got too involved in life after leaving college...though money was always a problem...not much I could do about that...geez, worked three (3) freaking jobs and still owed a snot-load of cash after I left...
Looking back...those dorms...man...I was 22-24 when I lived in those dorms...and man...all those 'kids' going totally beserk because they had never experienced real, true, freedom before that...too funny...and good old PFM (was that Pathetic Food Management, Pilot's Final Meal or what).
I will not forget the time Linc called me up just before finals (don't remember what year, what year was that Linc?) -and yeah, I was actually studying...anyways, for an invite to a DPS sobriety training event...yeah, get wasted on the DPS' dime and have ...Expand for more
them run you through field sobriety whilst they train thier new joins...geez, we were so trashed. Hey Linc, at least I could walk, talk and still operate under my own power...ha ha ha...
Had visited the campus last November (2004, was on the bike too), was really dissappointed in how much Biscuit (Prescott) had grown...it looked like a damned California suburb...missed the nice little college town that it once was...oh well...things change over time, this is inevitable...
Workplace
Work work work...have not known much different than that...
Got fired from my first job back in High School...for being a dumba$$...yeah...sorry Dad...
Anyways, for what ever reason...my SAT scores sucked, was not really very good at taking tests...so I opted for the plan 'B' get into college deal...and that was work full time for three (3) or more years and apply as a 'non-traditional' student...
Job 1) worked in a warehouse in Fairfield, CA from 1989-1992 (3.5 years)...was a union gig too...oh joy...became shop steward and even negotiated a contract with the corporate bosses...
Job 2) worked with DOD (that is Dear Old Dad) on my summers/breaks from college doing apartment maintenance in Vacaville, CA...learned much from DOD and had a great time doing it...thanks Dad...
Jobs 3, 4 & 5) worked grounds maintenance out in Biscuit (Prescott), AZ at Embry-Riddle, whilst working Circle K, and even did some roofing...college was mostly work and little play...
See Military for Job #6.
Job 7) pretty much Job 2 except that once I returned from college I was hired full-time.
Job 8 & 9) departed that apartment complex and worked a few months finishing contruction on another complex in Vacaville, where after construction was complete I was hired as the Maintenance Supervisor.
Job 10 and my current employment: utilized my military experience along with my aptitude with computers and mechanical equipment to be hired as a Field Technician/Engineer for a company which handles supply chain solutions; basically I install, maintain and repair computer-controlled automation. Pay is ok for Cali, but the job is great...who knows what may happen next...life is kinda interesting that way you know...
Military
Who would have ever believed...yeah...
SSgt in the Reserves of the United States Marine Corps for almost two (2) years now...Semper Fidelis...
I have served ten (12) years this June and have been to:
-Alaska (artic circle) fixing/operating anything that should move
-Camp Navajo, AZ fixing and operating
-On Ship on an Amphibious Assault Training Op
-Hawaii fixing trucks
-Colorado with 1/14 & 2/14; training with the BIG GUNS
-Norway fixing trucks
-Okinawa, Japan (twice) fixing trucks
-Camp Crowder, MI for NCO/Sgt's Course
-Alaska fixing/operating things that resemble trucks
I look forward to continuing my career in the reserves and it pains me to say that I have yet to be deployed...though I have had orders in hand (back in 2003) they were recinded within 48 hours...was to deploy this time around (2005) though that has been canked...
Now I stand deployed to do my duty abroad as the Corps needs, look forward to the change from the more recently irritating civilian side of life...
Will serve another ten (10) years if the Corps will keep me...
