Duane's Story
Have 3 children - all gainfully employed and out of the nest. Son John is married , has 3 daughters and one son, and works for the General Services Administration in DC developing their IT Knowledge Base web site. Daughter Monica is married with 2 sons and 4 daughters. Monica is indeed an Earth Mother, birthing her children at home as well as doing home schooling. She did work outside the home until the first son was born. Her husband is working with Taylormade and on an entrepreneurial project in Orlando. Aimee graduated from ODU in pre-med, attended East Virginia Medical School in Norfolk, VA, graduating with a Master of Physician Assistant degree. She is married to a doctor who has joined a practice in Virginia Beach, VA, with their two sons and one daughter. As you can see by the professional trail, it's been an eventful ride. Although I've left the military (twice), I traveled professionally as a systems engineer; 5 years with Litton PRC, 3 years with a Norwegian consulting firm in Kuwait, and was employed by Northrop Grumman since from '00 - 04 (in Baltimore) being responsible for designing command and control systems for Middle East and Africa projects. And 2004-2007, as the On-site Technical Lead System Engineering Manager for ...Expand for more
Northrop Grumman at the Defense Information System Agency in Falls Church, VA, was responsible for the coordination and management of the development, installation, integration and testing of the Global Command and Control System-Joint (GCCS-J). But, I miss flying from an aircraft carrier - being catapulted off and then catching the wire coming back (especially at night with no moon) - it does cause the heart to beat a bit faster. But what I miss most about flying is the camaraderie in the Ready Room.
One granddaughter, Alexandra, is employed at Disney World in Orlando as a character. She's been Pluto and Rafiki. She began training as Rapunzel and Belle. That training is quite long. There are many benefits at WDW, and one such is a college internship much like those at GM and other major corporations. Since she was an AP, National Honor Society and Magna Cum Laude HS grad this year, she will be taking advantage of that program.
No longer in far off lands, but am still searching for the perfect golf match; my handicap was a 10 and coming down - go TaylorMade - but I had laminectomy/fusion of L2-S1 so I'm still recovering. Getting stronger everyday and workout at Tae Kwon Do 4-5 times a week to push the envelope. Also, flying RC airplanes.
