Duane's Story
I have been blessed with a wonderful life that probably started with my Catholic upbringing beginning at St. Alexander's.
After completing school, being a motor head, I went to work in the automotive business as a mechanic at Braeger Chevrolet, working my way up to management. At that same time, I was also very involved in motorsports and became quite successful. As time and travel to motorsports events became greater, I was forced to make a decision. I purchased an airplane and learned to fly to my events. This led to a passion for flying and the eventual decision to become a professional corporate pilot, which I have been for 39 years. I have had the opportunity to fly all over the world, been type-rated in many different aircraft and flown for several Fortune 500 companies. n my life but what a challenging and fun time it was. I loved the competition and camaraderie. We were lucky enough to attract some great sponsors such as Coca Cola. But things grew to the point where the pressures of team management, sponsor commitments and too much time away from home made me decide to return to flying full time. Life once again settled down. About 8 years ago I had the opportunity to work for a smaller company flying only in the United States with a much less demanding schedule. Great job. Nice people. Life was good. On March 1 of this year, I finally retired.
Somewhere along the way, I managed to meet the love of my life, Nancy, who has managed for 31 years to put up with my crazy professions. Although we have no children, we have many toys. We also have a second home in Northwest Arkansas where we plan to move in the not-too-distant future and I can concentrate on restoring and collecting classic cars, my other passion and something I did not have much time for while still working. My wife makes and collects Teddy Bears. Cars and Teddy Bears, a perfect match!
