Duward's Story
Life
In school, I went from Lisbon Elem. in 1940 to John Henry Brown Elem. (during WW2), then back to Lisbon after WW2. Because of crowding in Lisbon, the upper level of my 7th grade class went to Boude Story Jr. High one semester early, in September of 1947. At that time, Dallas ISD had graduations from all school levels in both January and June. Thus, I entered Adamson High in January 1950 to begin my 10th (sophomore) grade and graduated in January 1953.
I went to Texas A&M in January 1953 and attended two years. We ran out of money, so I went to work.
In June 1955, I married Pat Joseph, who had just finished her sophomore year at South Oak Cliff HS.
My work transferred me to Houston, where we lived for a year.
In 1956, with a week-old daughter, we moved to Lake Jackson, Texas, on the Gulf Coast I went to work at Dow Chemical Co. We lived there for 15 years and had four more children.
During this period, I finished my education, Pat had gone to work as a darkroom flunky at the local newspaper, The Brazosport Facts. She moved up quickly to photographer, then reporter.
At the same time, I realized I needed to get away from chemistry or go nuts (I think I already was nuts, just didn't know it). I was bored doing the same thing every day.

cts needed an extra photographer for football games, I got the part-time job, which also evolved into both photography and writing. I was having the time of my life, even while being bored at Dow.
I'm nor sure how the idea evolved, but sometime in the 1969-70 period, I decided to become a university professor of mathematics (I had aced several math classes in my second college effort). This meant leaving Dow and the area.
But what about security and my pension after 15 years? Well, at that time, Dow's pension plan precluded anyone joining until age 35. I had just become eligible when I left the company.
I had searched for the right school for over a year. We decided to move to Logan, Utah, so I could attend Utah State University. Folks, this was a school that actively recruited me after it received my transcript, almost as if I was some sports recruit.
Pat was hired by the college for it's University Relations Office. She was writing news articles and taking photos, She also traveled often all around Utah for the college's Extension Service.
I received some grants and did work study while trying to pass some upper-level math courses. Alas, it seemed beyond me. My degree advisor suggested I drop math temporarily and take some other courses.
