Dwaine's Story
Life
After graduation I attended Bakersfield Jr. College. I took a semester off and was immediately notified that I was being drafted so I enlisted in the Army to receive the training I wanted. I went to basic training at Ft. Orde, CA and went to tech school for helicopter heavy maintenance at Ft. Eustis, VA. After tech school I was assigned to the First Cavalry Division in Korea, working on CH21 helicopters. After my tour of duty in Korea I was assigned to the Aviation Training command at Ft. Rucker Alabama where I was an instructor for CH21 helicopter crew chiefs. I was discharged from the Army in 1967 and gained employment at the Boeing Airplane Co. in Seattle Washington working on the 727 aircraft.
I returned to Bakersfield in 1968 and went to work at Bakersfield Aviation Service at Meadows Field.
In the summer of 1968 I attended airframes and powerplant tech school at Northrop Institute of Technology I graduated in 1969. After Northrop I got a job in San Diego, California at ...Expand for more
a repair station for Beech aircraft. I went from San Diego to Palmdale in 1970 and was working on the L1011 aircraft.
In 1972 I was employed by the Grumman Aircraft and Engineering Corp. at Pt Mugu, California. I was working on the F14 Tomcat in flight test and evaluation. With the F14 I was accepted on the Iran export program in 1976. In Iran I worked with the Imperial Iranian Airforce. I was training the technicians on F14 maintenance procedures. I returned from Iran in 1978 and continued working at Pt Mugu until 1980 at which time I was transferred to the mod program at NAS Miramar doing updates on the F14 airframe for the Navy.
In July 1981 I married Roxanne in Bakersfield, CA and we have been happily together since that day.
In 1996 the F14 was transferred from Nas Miramar to NAS Oceana in Virginia. I returned to Pt Mugu CA. at that time and worked in the planning department until my retirement. I retired from Northrop Grumman July 21, 2004 and I live in the San Diego area.
