Dwayne's Story
Life
After high school I signed up in the Air Force and made it a career.
My first assignment was in Abilene where I got married in 1981, then we moved to Wichita Falls, Texas where I attended college with Vernon Jr. College. At this time, I found it necessary to move somewhere more exciting. We ended up in Kaiserslautern, West Germany for 3 years. A very exciting country to be in and very beautiful.
My next assignment took me to Minot, North Dakota (very cold up there -- OUCH!!). Did you see the movie, "Dancing With Wolves"? That was what the country site looked like but the hunting and fishing was great.
My last assignment was in San Antonio at Kelly AFB. What made my career more exciting then just being in these areas was my job required travel so, I was able to see many different cultures. I traveled to many states in the US and I traveled Europe and England throughout my career. I met many different people, country sights, and the food was great.
Through my military career I was involved in bodybuilding and powerlifting where I entered contests in both areas but mostly in powerlifting. I did good either way and have the trophies and pictures to prove it. It was great doing it but age catches up with you and you decide to slow down but I still keep in shape.
My military career came to an end in 1995 and I retired but I really enjoyed it. I ended up in Houston working for Compaq Computer before I was layed off in 2001 but I'm working for a much smaller company but more pay. The company is called S&R Resources, Inc. and you can go to srresources.com and I'm in the big picture looking in a microscope.
Well, life continues to change and I ended up divorced in 2001. Things don't seem to last but I can't say it was a waste because I have a beautiful 14 year old girl. She's the greatest thing in my life besides having Christ in my life.
If anyone wants to drop a line, I'm at DBishop at SRResources.com. I had to write my email address like this because it gets tagged as unauthorized contact information. I would like to hear from anyone.
College
I attended many different colleges while I was serving in the Air Force. I attended McMurry College in Abilene, Vernon Jr. College in Wichita Falls, City Colleges Of Chicago in Germany, and University Of Maryland in Germany.
Workplace
While I was in high school, I worked for Wendy's and Sonic. After high school, I went in the the Air Force and made it a career. After retiring from the Air Force, I ended up in Houston working as an Engineering Technician with Compaq Computer Corp for 5 y...Expand for more
ears. I now work for a small OEM Electonics repair company dealing with RF Communications in Houston. It turned out to be a step up from Compaq.
Military
Being in the Air Force was great. I first 4 years was spent as an Crew Chief aircraft mechanic on C-130H at Dyess AFB in Abilene, TX. I traveled to different states and Europe for practicing wartime exercises. It was very exciting to meet different people and cultures. I lost many different friends from incidents during these times but you have to accept what has happened.
After my first 4 years, I crossed trained in the Electronic Systems Communications field. I maintained Communication Data Systems that were critical to the role of the Air Force. I was stationed at Sheppard AFB in Wichita Falls, TX for 3 years.
After Sheppard AFB, I moved to Germany for 3 years at Kapaun AS in Kaiserslautern, Germany. My job there was on a Special Maintenance Team where we assisted and trained all other communications technicians in Europe. Here I got to travel even more. This was my best job in the Air Force. I got to visit the different countries and meet so many different people. The food was to die for. There's always something to do in Europe. I got involved while I was in Germany. I was there in person in Germany when that Air Show accident happened in 1988. It was a terrible thing that happen but it was a real world experience as well. I wish I could go back but the military made it great.
After Germany, I ended up at Minot AFB, Minot, TX. I spent 3 years at Minot and It wasn't too bad but it does have to grow on you. It's a desolate place and winters are very very cold. It's a great place to raise a family and lots of hunting and fishing year around but if you like your malls and clubs, forget it. Of course, it's been 12 years since I was there so, maybe things changed.
After Minot, I ended up in San Antonio at Kelly AFB where I retired in 1995. I don't have to say much about San Antonio. I work on Security Hill by Lackland AFB behind the inner security area by NATO Headquarters.
The Air Force was great and I really enjoyed it. It one of those things you want to see come to an end but it does. Civilian life is different but it has it's good points to.
I'm jumping some years later here to say I got married to Peggy Sue Gutierrez on May 3, 2010. A new and very happy life for the both of us. Our story is short but we dated over 30 years ago while I was stationed in Abilene, Texas and our lives have come back together with blessing from God. God put us together and we feel blessed.
