Dwayne's Story

I'm on facebook/twitter/google as brim72! School? Well, let's see... I was crushin' on a few young ladies there at the 'born'! But the one I liked most had to be an 89' graduate, Tracy Smith (I believe that was her last name), she was in my chemistry class. She was also my lab partner on a few Chem assignments. Ruby was our chemistry teacher. The class kinda clowned on me a lil bit, cause the teacher favored me some, but that was cool too! It was Ruby & Mr. T that really gave me a good push in life! It was their idea to submit me for a statewide Math/Science test, for internships in Engineering, Medical, and other industrial sponsers! Unbeknownst too many, 'Buckle Up' (that was my high school nick - assigned to me! lol!) had a lot of female friends! To the fellas a quiet nerd, but to the ladies a piano playing, short story/poem writing, layered individual, that was aspiring to be an Engineer in the Auto industry! There's only 1 male person that peeped my game - Shawn. They called us the piano brothers. Apparently, it's true that great minds think a like. He too, was doing the same thing! lol! Next, let's see... Ummm, oh! How could I forget the Great Singer Nina Gigger?! OMG! This was another girl that I was crushin' on! I really expected to see her do something more public than her choir singing at a small church off of Van Dyke, not too far from Kettering High... (she killed it at her church too! thx for the invite Nina) I remember her coming into the talent show audition and was able to hush, the LOUD crowd of students with a tear jerker of a song about finding her lover on his wedding day(to marry someone else!). Her audition sent goose bumps all over my body, she had a beautiful voice! Everyone was in awe! In the two short years, that I spent at the 'born', one of my elects was Band with Mr. Ashley (who by the way, had a very sexy niece! - could NOT believe the two were related!) In Band, the names Ron Otis, Jermane - Trombone Player, Mike ---- and Mike Smith had the band on lock! Up comers, as myself, Kalefonda, Shawn, Tara ---- and others that may the day pass by too quickly! I truely enjoyed that class! There was one individual that changed my life completely, Chena Smith! We tried the dating thing, but we agreed we were better friends than anything else... Through the years Chena introduced me to two of her friends. (How many fellas can say that they're ex' introduced them to her girlfriends! Ha lol!) Any way, she introduced me the 1st one, it was cool at first but fissled out within two years. Then the next one, I fell in love with and married! College I went to college probably way too soon! I was attending college the day of my highschool graduation ceremony! Back then, I was working at Mc Donald's and going to school. At the time, that wasn't out of the norm! I always had a part-time job somewhere while I was going to school. But I guess, nah I know I was burned out by the time college came around! I plan on taking online courses, just for self gratification but nothing more! Workplace I knew at a very young age that I loved earning my own money! I got tired of being told that 'I can't afford that!' or 'What do you need that for?', from my parents. I wanted to start making my own money, so I could buy the things that were important to me at the time! (Transformers, Model Cars, Star War figures, etc... lol) My chores included mowing the lawn and snow removal. So, I asked my mother if I could mow the neighbors lawn, for $5 (he rarely did it, due to working alot of hours at Ford). Wasn't alot of money then, but now that I think about it, it was more than minimum wage, for about an hour's work! I was 10yrs old when I started mowing lawns and shoveling snow. Back in 84', when we had the huge snow storm, I was one of the kids knocking on your door asking you, "Sir or Maam, Do you need your sidewalk/driveway or help getting your car unstuck?" No matter what t...Expand for more
he task, yard work or snow removal, $5 was the price! I remember staying out all day to shovel snow! Most people hated the winter, not this one, it brings too many good memories for me! How many 10yrs olds you know not asking for Xmas or birthday gifts? I felt like I was on top of the world! Of course, my mother made me put most away, but still I didn't care! The next venture was my paper route (for 2yrs), now that was NOT so fun. I found out at a young age, that sometimes people work some jobs, because the money is good, but the job sucks! I upgraded my status, with the money I was making, about $125/wk, but the hours were long and I missed out on a lot of things that I thought were important then... I was 12yrs old. I was 14 when I got my 1st pay check. I worked, for the City of Detroit, in the teen clean program. We would clean public schools. Now, this job was cool! I met a lot of cuties working there! But the pay wasn't what I was used to, so I only worked this one for 2 summers. I had this job and my lawn/snow removal services still going at this time! I was 15 when I was working at Gardner White Furniture (Hoover & 8 Mile), part-time cause I was still in school. Grades started to slip some, so moms said I had to quit. I remember being bummed over that one, cause I was really into this one girl, and I was saving for some wheels! So, losing that job kinda 'canc-ed' that plan! At 16, I came in 4th place, for the state of Mich, in a Math/Science Test! I wasn't too happy about the results cause they were offering (2)internships in Engineering and I missed out. 1st and 2nd place gobbled those up! There was a spot in the medical field, so I took that one. Still turned out to be a great summer job, I was a pharmacist assistant! I was working at Samaritan Hospital (it's now Mercy Hospital - by I-94 and Outer Drive), I did well there. I was asked to return the next summer as an temp employee! I was making $8.65/hr, not too shabby! It was a Great Job! At 18yrs old, I was kinda slackin some! Didn't do too much till I went into the Marine Corps at age 19, for my birthday! I was enlisted for 2yrs. At 21, I had some money, but was broke all the same, cause I needed to have therapy on injured knees and back. So, I found a job that would allow me to workout for free! I worked at Fitness USA, gained about 40lbs of muscle, then through my back out doing 'Dead Lifts' - That Hurt! So, I had to leave weights alone for a while! I was broke again, had to goto V.A. hospital for back and knee treatment again! They made me well enough to get back on my feet... Later that year, I was employeed once again with (2) jobs. I was working at Best Buy and a Chemical recycling Plant. Loved the Best Buy job! I was at home in the PC sales department! I didn't feel quite fulfilled though! I felt like I wasn't doing something or better yet like I was missing something! I was 22, working at an Engineering firm in 93', as an IT. In 99', I started my own business, in the Auto Industry programming robots and debugging PLC logic Military I enlisted in the Marine Corps for 91' for 19th birthday. I was in rapid advancement program, in boot camp, graduated as E3. I enrolled into (2) schools in the military: Radio Tech & Radio Operator. I had a lot of fun, being in the MC. Got to see a lot of places, meet a lot of women! The MC has definately changed my life, some good and some bad. But the one thing that I'll carry with me forever is my determination to strive for whatever I want! See, being in the Corps, or any military establishment, you can run into barriers that'll hold you back! I said to myself, 'Once I get out, that'll never happen to me again!' To the best of my ability, I'll never let a person or an establishment hold me back! I am now not in the military, due to a injury during a night Ops. Knee and back pains come and go, but a good attitude on life, and a good diet helps me fight the pain!
