Dwight's Story
After graduating from TJHS in '73 I enrolled at West Virginia University where I spent the next five years of my life partying, experimenting, growing up and establishing my future as a landscape architect. I graduated WVU in 1978 with a bachelor of science degree in landscape architecture and immediatley headed south.
My mom and brother had moved from Edsall Park to Collinsville, VA by that time. I took up temporary residence with them for the next two months while sending out resumes and scheduling interviews. I landed my first gig when I was invited by J. Edward Pinckney As...Expand for more
soc. to come down to their office for an interview. It turned out to be an island off the coast of South Carolina called Hilton Head which I had never heard of at the time. That island turned out to be my home for the next seven years, what a blast.
That September (1978) I married my sweetheart, Sarajane Manilla, in a small ceremony at her parents home in Morgantown, WV. Some close friends from TJHS (Skip Garrett, Linda Matkins, Valerie Rowe, & others) made the 6 hour drive from Norhtern Virginia to celebrate and send us down the road for the three day drive back to the island.
