I'm sorry to say that I am no longer a whole person. My HHS sweetheart, Judy Tuck Barber (class of 59) passed away peacefully in her sleep April 18, 2004. I am no longer whole because Judy made me so, and now she is gone. We dated three and a half years and would have been married 44 years May 28. She retired this past January and we planned for many wonderful things after I followed her in retirement. We have two wonderful children and three marvelous grandchildren. Judy was the sweetest, most generous, graceful and beautiful person I have ever known. She touched to lives of a tremendous number of people, including hundreds of my University of Florida students, to whom she was a surrogate mother or friend. The family received tributes from people from all over the world, including some very important people. Two college scholarships have been started ...Expand for more
in her name, as well as the establishment of an annual award in her name by the School Board of Alachua County for whom she worked for 35 years. But as wonderful as all that is, the void the loss of her is almost unbearable.

I was in Romeo 22 at Cape May during the fall of 1957 and winter of '58. As trainees we had to wear leggings when we went on liberty. About a month or so before our training ended, our company CPO got into a lot of trouble and was relieved of his command. Believe it or not, our trainee CO was put in charge. He did a great job, but we became a little lax, including (horrors) removing our leggings when we went on liberty. The first time the company had leave, arrangements were made to go to NY by bus. I was in sick bay with measles and a high fever. I was the only one who didn't go. After Cape May, I went to Groton for schooling.
