Ed's Story

Life Hey all. Let's see, what have I been up to? Went to the University of Puget Sound (UPS) in Tacoma, WA, and graduated in '93 with a BA in English, Creative Writing. So of course, I ended up working various office jobs, including a stint in the UPS financial aid department. I decided this wasn't what I wanted to do, so I moved to Seattle in the fall of '97 to attend the University of Washington's Masters program in Library & Information Science. Got my MLIS in spring of '99, and landed a job at Amazon.com. Stayed there through various positions until I got hit with a layoff (like so many others). Bummed around, and got a contract position at Microsoft. Contract ended after a year, followed by a year of unemployment--yikes! Briefly worked at Microsoft again, but now I work for Nervana (a local startup) and do some freelance work Wizards of the Coast (a local game company). Still single, despite a couple close calls with marriage in my college years--I've since settled into a contented bachelor lifestyle. I've recently purchased a condo in North Seattle, and am experiencing the joys and sorrows of home ownership. I still read and game a lot, and spend time with friends from college and the Camarilla (a game organization I belong to). I don't look /too/ different from my Linfield/UPS days--my hair is still messy more often than not, for example. I have put on some weight (who hasn't?) since I stopped walking all over the UW campus, but I've been developing a fondness for hitting the gym, if you can believe that, so we'll see if I can get that back under control. Anyway, feel free to drop me a line, I'd love to hear from you! School Ah, Linfield...my sanctuary from the public school system--no, ser...Expand for more
iously, if it hadn't been for Linfield, I'm not sure I would have made it to graduation. :P Having my uncle Dan be the headmaster led to some drama (one student government election in particular), but overall folks were cool about it. It was an awkward time for me (like everyone else), but there are some very good memories regardless. Yearbook (pulling all-nighters when deadlines approached; glowing with pride when Mrs. Bowman complimented an article I'd written); musicals (from Mr. Eldridge to Mr. DelGeorge, with my favorite being Pirates of Penzance, even if we edited some of the "racier" songs--Gusty Month of May indeed :P); Great Race (poor Steve, always being the one chosen to drink the Mystery Mix!); Winter Mountain Seminar (lots of lectures, followed by skiing!); our restrained social functions (murdery-mystery cruise with Amy; annual Spring Formal with first Mary, then Karina); and, of course, the Senior Trip (Disneyworld! All the girls defiantly wearing two-pieces! Good times ;>). And, of course, the crushes--good grief, the crushes, both my public ones (Mary, Sarah, Emily, Amy), and those I was more circumspect about (Shannon, Karina, Elena, Kim (Bristow), Linda--and more besides (ah, hormones!)). I'm not at the point where I'd love to do it all over again (that's mostly how I feel about college!), but there are plenty of fond memories, regardless. How about you? College So many memories--Langlow House (especially around Halloween); Honors Program; Campus Films; the Rendezvous, Celler, and SUB; Lady Jayne's; Mistletoast; the dish room; spring break; Casino Night; staying up all night working on Mott's thrice-damned journals...and, of course, the people, the wonderful people. Sigh...now I'm nostalgic. :P
