Ed's Story
Worked at a couple of jobs while going to Suffolk County Community College after graduation. After 2 years at SCCC, joined the Air Force in 1969 to avoid being gobbled up by the Army. After all, the draft was active and Vietnam was imminent. Spent 24 years in the Air Force, traveled many places around the world, seen many things that were interesting, seen things I don't ever want to ever see again. Retired from the USAF in 1993.
Owned a small business from 1993 t0 1998. Light construction & interior trim.
For 13 years during active duty, and just after retirement, I was a member of a couple of local volunteer fire departments climbing the ladder, pun intended, to attain up to, and including, the position of Fire Chief. Interesting and challenging activities.
In 1998, went to work for a company that sold & repaired copiers, microfilm, and microfiche equipment, eventually becoming the warehouse & parts manager at the home office. Got laid off in 2012. That was a life shocker! I think they called it "down sizing".
In 2013 went to work for another company like it. I walked out after 3 months because they wouldn't let me do my job.
In 2014 took on a part-time job, for something to do, very close to home, working as an assistant manager at a self-storage place. Left there because I couldn't work for a person that could be the poster child for "dummies". I'm an equal opportunity person. I dislike everybody equa...Expand for more
lly.
Now, retired, living on military retirement and Social Security.
Back in 1970, just after going in to Air Force, I got married. Seven years later got divorced. Unfortunately, there was a child in the middle of the ugly divorce. Now she is 42 and living in Georgia.
In 1978, got married for the second time. We're now coming up on our 41st anniversary. no children from this marriage. A couple years of bad medical problems have plagued my wife. I'm doing pretty good. Staying active, doing projects around the house.
PCs, dogs & guns keep me busy also. Not in that particular order. I dabble a lot on the PC, have a small collection of firearms, and visit a couple of assisted living facilities in the area every week with my therapy dog. One of the 3 dogs we have. All Miniature Schnauzers.
In any case, it's been an interesting 52 years since graduation. Some good, some bad, but you've got to work with what you're handed, whether that means changing things for the better or going with what you've got.
Not sure yet whether or not I can be at the reunion. I'm sure it would be interesting. I'm also sure that I could walk into most of you on the street and not know who you are. Strange how a little age does that to you. I switch between having CRS and CRAFT. Any of you suffer from those conditions? It's even harder when you only have 1 living brain cell left!
Maybe I'll see you in July. I hope there are name tags!
