Ed's Story
After graduating HS in "57 I went to SIU until Jan 1960. I enlisted in the Air Force, Went to San Antonio for Basic and then to Denver for my one year electronics school. Assigned to Myrtle Beach AFB, SC in 1961 as a Fire Control tech on the F100. From there I was all over the world TDY as in my 3 years tour I was in MBAFB only 6 months. Spent time in Italy, Turkey, Saudi Arabia, India, Libya, Spain and Scotland.
After my 4 years were up Jan '64. I came back to Salem for a month Then got a job in St. Louis with Southwestern Bell. I started as a lineman and 5 years later was promoted to Engineering in beautiful downtown East St. Louis. Worked several different assignment in and around St. Louis until "82 and I accepted a job in Corpus Christi, TX. Stayed there for 5 years and transferred to San Antonio, TX. I retired in May of 1998 and then after two weeks of retirement hired back as a contractor...Expand for more
for 3 more years finally in Sept 2001 I gave it up for good.
As far a family life married Jan Swartz from Centralia in 1964 and divorced in 1992. We didn't have any children.
As far as activities while in Mo. got into boating at the Lake of the Ozarks, kept a cruiser at Pot Arrowhead Marina from 1974 until we moved to TX in 1982.
In CC we both joined the Coast Guard Aux. and had a very good time boating and Instructing, I taught nav, weather and several courses.
Since my divorce I got back into Corvettes and I'm still very much involved wit the local club and also became a Life time member in the Corvette Museum in Bowling Green, KY. I'm now on my 10th Corvette and thinking about 11.
I still get to Salem about every year or so and I still have property at Lake of The Ozarks. My family in Salem is down to my sister and one cousin.
