Ed's Story

Life Taliesin1935 on Gmail system! Well, this being 2008, let me do the math...hmmmm...1973..1983...1993..darn!! 2003..2008 that's 35 years, folks! It seems like just a few short years ago doesn't it? And WHO is that old looking person that keeps showing up in your family photos? Well, 50 something (for now!) IS better than 80 something! So, that leaves with fifty something years more to enjoy, set things to right, apply what we've learned these past 52 or so years. Hey, experience teaches lessons, right? Well, we oughta be really well taught by now, no? Still married to the high school sweetheart? No? (I'm not) Are you the same person you were at 18? (Hell No..who is?) Things just don't go as originally planned (like we planned anything!) I guess you just have to roll with the punches, be a golden rule type of person (but realize there are lots of people out there who use the tin rule, or the crumpled up aluminum foil rule, or whatever it is they call it, and don't always play fair!) I learned that the hard way, but still believe most people are good eggs, but the rotten ones are just that, rotten! Maybe they have nice looking shells, but if you were crack it open, you just wouldn't believe how stinky they can be on the inside! Looks, appearances, and honey toned voices or words don't mean an awful lot. Anyhow, enjoy things, learn cool stuff ( I'm battling a guitar with all my might, and fancy myself a closet Brian Setzer or Jim "Reverend Horton Heat" Heath (look it up, this guy rules..) Also I've posted some photos I took on the class photo pages. Have a look..I promise not to bore!! The bottom line is SMILE!!, there are graveyards full of people who'd give anything to have even a minute of your troubles! Well, I'm married to my wonderful second wife, Karen for 8 years now and am greatful that she came to me and had such a profound effect(just how that I happened to link up with a New York City PR person is a story that may sound a little adventuresome or crazy, but it was WELL worth the trip) I've got FIVE grandkids and three kids that are all great! That's not much of a bio, but I'm sure all of you have the quirky twists that you thought could only happen to you...but alas..we're all in the same boat aren't we? If anybody's interested, I know they forbid email addresses on here but on the AOL system I use the name Taliesin1935 ( BIG Frank Lloyd Wright fan, so put 2 and 2 together and that's where I can be reached!) We Just bought an old..old..oooooooooold house in Saginaw's Bay City...a BIG old house with a cool oak stairway..fancy big radiators..fireplace..and probably 110 years worth of ghosts (cool!) It must be really old..I thought I saw Bob Vila driving by slowly checking it out..well..at least it LOOKED like Bob Vila. Hey, that house was already 77 when we graduated..that means we're not that old after all! Ed White Taliesin1935 on the AOL system if you know what I'm saying...if you're interested in trading war stories! Workplace Work Biography..well, how can we put this nicely. There used to be a time here in Saginaw when you graduated ...Expand for more
from high school, there was college, and the path of higher education. Or there was how your family, and friend's families made their living. Steering Gear. (or some other local auto plant) You had the choice of toiling away at MORE school, which by now, you were totally tired of, OR Steering Gear. Watching your newly employed friends tool up in their NEW cars (which my family never had..five years old was "New" to me!) or Motorcycles. You could have a new car, a boat, a payment on a newer ranch house(ugh!), AND spending money! AT 18 or 19 YEARS OLD. Tell YOUR 18 year old that! Kids don't have that same opportunity today, they work and slave for 6 bucks an hour or..go to school, and make more money ( maybe!) Well, that was awfully tempting for somebody right out of high school, and of course, that's what I did. I had all of those things (NOT the ranch house, though, I'm a Frank Lloyd Wright, and other great architecture fan!) and I'm here to tell you I wish I would've taken the other way. I basically was a prostitute...yeah...it boils down to that. You rent out your body to perform manual labor by picking up piece A and putting it onto piece B, or some variation of that. You hate it..but there's the bills to pay, and eventually, the mouths to feed. You owe them what you can give them..so you stay. How about moving up the ladder?? Well, supervising the above, or figuring out faster ways of performing the above tasks is even worse..they have your MIND as well as your body then! (and for not much more pay..a few cents an hour, maybe.) I chose the former. There are robots and machines standing where people used to stand, doing the same function a person used to do. That's ALL the person is in that place..a biological machine. As soon as they figure out a machine to replace you...they do...always. The bottom line is...Do what you LOVE and do it for that reason, and not slave JUST for the money...it won't buy happiness...you'll just have to work more overtime to pay for all that stuff you THINK is the basis for happiness. I worked as a professional photojournalist for a few years and couldn't keep up the pace while working at the plant at the same time), and never seeing my kids. So the kids won out, and I'll never regret it. But, if I had it to do again...ah...If I had it to do again...Photojournalism. I modestly say I didn't suck, as some of you may know, if you read the Saginaw News between 1985 and 1992 "Coulda been a contendah" But..there's 40 some years to go..and I've got plenty of time to contend. So when your kids want to be making your 27 bucks an hour (the going rate) Talk them out of it. Trust me!! Taliesin1935 on the AOL system if you're interested. UPDATE: I "Retired" fronm Delphi on Halloween 2004...Boo! I don't like the word Retiree, that implies wearing pants way too high, driving with your turn signal always on, and complaining about everything. They just let you out while you still have some time to do stuff. It's a trade off...30 years of stark raving monotony for time off for good behavior "parole" Now, it's off to the fun stuff!
