Eddie's Story
My email is ed-de at gmx.net , if you want to drop a line.
I posted this a while ago to see if there really was anyone from South Brunswick that would find it. I have not joined the club, but get updates from people, if you email separately from this website. The only thing this site does is tell me that someone left a note, and won't tell me who or what.
So, short story.
I actually was in the Class 0f '76, but graduated a year early (1975) by taking English during the summer. In New Jersey you have to have enough credits, and the required courses to graduate. All I needed to get done was English to qualify me for early graduation. I could not see staying in High School for another year just because I needed one class.
After high school, I went to Rutgers for Forestry,1980 . I always liked the Woods. Instead of getting a regular job, my roommate talked me into joining ROTC. After college I was commissioned a 2LT in the Field Artillery.
In the army, I spent time in Korea, Germany and Oklahoma, all foreign countries to most people. I left the Army as a Captain in 1986. My primary specialty was nuclear weapons operations. The warheads really are "warm" to the touch. Not much civilian use in knowing how to build and deploy a nuclear bomb.
I used my GI bill to go back to school and received am MBA from Arizona St. and a MIM from The Graduate School of International Management ( Thunderbird) in Gendale, Arizona. I met my wife at grad school in 1990. She was finishing up her Masters in Nursing at ASU.
Finally, we got married in 1996. Too old for kids, but my wife, Ilene, has a heart for stray dogs and cats. I ...Expand for more
think we have a pet buried under almost every tree on the property.
I live in Flagstaff, Arizona, sell real estate, do some remodeling, do my own property management, and try to spend as much time in the Woods as possible. I joke to people that I am an overpaid maintenance man because of all the work on keeping up our 15 properties.
In Aug, 2012 my wife took a position in San Antonio at UT Health and Science. She is the associate dean of academic affairs, and I am unemployed here, but go back to Flagstaff every couple of months to work on my houses and catch up on real estate. So far , so good, but Texas is a lot different than Arizona. Home is still Arizona. Texas is 98% private land, Arizona is 87% public land; quite a difference. I like the open spaces of Arizona where you can shoot a 30.06 in any direction and not worry about hitting anyone.
Moved back to Arizona in early Dec 15. On 29 Dec, I was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. I had surgery on Feb 5, and am recovering. They took out 3/4 of my pancreas, 1/4 of my stomach, my gall bladder and upper intestines. But, what the hey... Alive and doing well. 50% of people with my type of cancer die within two years, 47% live over 5 years. I think I will be in the latter group.
Family Update
