Eddie (Ed)'s Story

School Did electronics shop and the library .... the only parts of High School that I can really say I enjoyed. You could find me in the AV office too. As I was the prototype for the modern day geek, the rest of my time in High School was pretty much a non-event for me. The night of my senior prom ... went to a movie with Jamezina ?? ... remember she was nice, but never dated her again Best friends when I was in school: Butch Deal, Terry Killian, Gordon Seth, Robert Thompson, Doug Raisley. Butch Deal was my best friend of the bunch though ... he was that fireman that died in the arson fire back in Butler, back 20 years or so ago. The rest, sadly I don't know where they are today ...hoping one of them finds me here. Was in Boy Scouts (Troop 7), then later in Explorers and the Order of the Arrow with Doug Hays, Bob Coffman, Don Mock, Dick Andre and several guys who I have obviously forgot by now (sorry ...). Advisor was a man named Jim Wheeler ... he worked on the cyclotron out in Saxonburg ... took us out there once. Lived over on Walker Avenue then ... next to Jim McClymonds, in the house my parents bought from Elmer Steele (Bob Steele was their son). Other folks I remember from that area were Doug Raisley, Jimmy Rodgers, Anita Nicholas, and Kay Sykes. College At...Expand for more
tended both the University of Maryland where I got my B.S. in Business and Management; then USC where I did grad work in towards a Masters in Systems Management. Did all of this at Kadena AB, while I was stationed in Okinawa. College for me was not a social event, but a period of hard work ... worked full time, then college after work 4-5 nights each week for 5 hours (each class was 2 1/2 hours long). Spent weekends studying ... and gave up lots of family time. Workplace Spent first 20 years of my working life in the Air Force. After retiring from the Air Force, have worked as a programmer for Lake County, CA; Apollo Computer; Humboldt County, CA and now Humboldt State University. No regrets on career choices ... one thing lead me to the next, and if it weren't for the Air Force, probably would be dead or in jail today. Military Spent 20 years in the Air Force, mostly in air transportation as a passenger and cargo specialist, and most of that bouncing around overseas, primarily in the Pacific. Other jobs I held during that 20 years included ground radio operator (for as long as that school lasted), recruiter, security policeman, and finally computer programmer. Retired in 1985 as a Master Sergeant, and returned to northwestern California, where I live today.
