Michael Edward's Story
Many mistakes. But also, many lessons learned. Unfortunately some mistakes had more lasting consequences than others. My faith and the support and love of family and friends along with my stubborn desire to not give up empower me to keep striving to make the most out of my life even though the consequences of previous bad choices are a continual hinderance to my efforts.
My father was in the Army and we moved around a lot when I was young. We finally settled in Mt. Vernon, where I started the 2nd grade. My mother passed away when I was in the 8th grade. Midway throught my 9th grade year our family moved to Blackwell, a small town in west Texas. There I did well in sports: Captain and All-District selection in football; Captain and team leader in rebounds on the basketball team; District Champ and Regional qualifier in the high jump and 300m hurdles; School record 300m hurdles ('85-'90); School record high jump ('84-present). I was named best actor in the Zone Competition of the One-Act Play. I also graduated Valedictorian.
After graduation I went to Ranger Junior College on a track scholarship. I dropped out after the first semester. In 2001 I received an Associate degree (Gen. Studies) from Trinity Valley Com...Expand for more
munity College. I'm currently enrolled in Central Texas Community College and Tarleton State University, where I'm 12 credit hours away from an Associated degree in Social Sciences and 24 credit hours away from my B.B.A.
After dropping out of college in '85, I worked many odd jobs over the course of the next two years: roughneck in the oilfield, porter at a car dealership, bodyman at a bodyshop, checker at a grocery store, cowboy on a ranch, light duty mechanic, and carpenter. In 1987 I began working at Ludlum Measurements Inc. a Geiger counter manufacturer, in Sweetwater, TX. I worked there for 3 and a half years. In 1990 I went to work for Northern Telecom as a field technician, where I installed telecommunications equipment in TX, OK,NM,MO,LA, and AR. I worked for Nortel until the end of 1995. Now, I'm pretty much a full-time writer. I've written three novels, a novella, numerous short stories, memiors, and personal essays. I've had three short pieces published. I have an agent who is currently trying to place my second novel, "Scars."
