Edgar's Story

Life Finally got away from Stadium in 1959, being held over by popluar demand (yeah, right!). Got my GPA all the way up to a 1.5 (phew, barely made it!). Did a stint with the Army Security Agency, in England, until June, '62. Walked into the Admissions Office of U of Puget Sound, in Sept '62 and was greeted by Karen (nee Kasselman) and applied for entrance. Was admitted and did okay for about a year. On the night of the Alaska earthquake, remet Karen at a TGIF function. We took off for Couer'd'Alene, ID, five weeks later, and got married. Finally made it out of UPS in '67 and went to grad school at U of Idaho, getting a Master of Arts-Teaching (Chem and Math) in '70 (doing my internship at No. Idaho Jr. College). Had a faculty appointment as a counselor at U of Nevada - Reno for a couple years and then went with the Fed in '73. Worked for Defense Logistics Agency and then Strategic Systems Projects Office (Navy Trident II) as Asst. Adv. Weapons Systems Officer. Had two children in VA, Katrin in '76 and Kristian in '80. Took a job with US Army-Japan Comptroller Office from 1980-85 (was Command Program Analysis Officer), then the Army sent me to Syracuse U. (85-86) where I received an MBA in Financial Management. We left Japan with another child, Robert (Kiyo), born just 6 weeks prior to our departure. After Syracuse, I worked briefly at Ft Ord, CA (Deputy Finance Officer '86-88), and Toole Army Depot, Utah (Chief of Management and Program Analysis '88-90). Took the job of Financial Manager of the Army portion of the Global Positioning Satellite Program at the GPS Joint Progam Office, LA Air Force Base, CA ('90-97), from which I retired. Since retirement I turned to refereeing soccer professionally for club and high school. I still manage to get in but only a few games a year for AYSO, as well. (This is the 38rd year of refereeing for me.) Now wish I could spend time with Karen, doing our accumulatio...Expand for more
n of projects at home, as she has retired from teaching Special Ed. at Calle Mayor Middle School. But she remains in high demand to substitute, 3-5 times a week and sadly has also filed for separation. Kiyo (b '85) graduated from UC-Irvine and has just completed his MBA ('18). He's been involved in wine marketing. Kristian (b '80) completed his Masters in Planning at USC in May '05 and has received his Law law degree from Chapman University - passed the Bar, and is now involved in commercially producing and marketing wine. What else is there to do and somebody has to do it!! He and his wife, Marisa, have given us a second Grandson, Lucius Katrin (b. '76) just got her BA ('18) continues being a great Mom to our Grandson, Joshua, and copes with Fibromyalgia. She completed her Masters(Ed) in 2020 and will now shoot for a teaching certificate. I continue to referee Soccer, both for pay and fun, with Coast Soccer League (USSF), High Schools , and occasionally AYSO, here in the SoBay LA, Cal. area (now a year round job!) --OOPS!! Pandemic and Triple By Pass has somewhat ended my refereeing. (and I so wanted to do at least one game at 80 plus!) All the family doing well; Karen, I believe, remains great and had been VERY patient (had to be around me!) - until May 2012 Then, she finally lost all patience with my bouts of depression and entered into the process of finalizing a separation. Understandable, but sad! Me? It's a day to day living! Make sourdough, pastrami, and other goodies for fun and feeding friends and neighbors. Cheers to all, it's been a good run so far, with only the major stumble toward the end!! Thanks to Lani, Denny, et alia for a fantastic reunion. Marty's poster and pins were great and appreciated. And -- By golly, had I known all the girls in the class were so good looking, I just may have gone to school more often!! Looking forward to next reunion (2023?) and hope all can make it.
