Edward's Story
Life
After high school I worked in factory(IHC) for 4 yrs; drafted into the US Army for two years, in '63, spending 18 mos. in So Korea. Upon discharge, spent one month in San Fran, CA, got homesick and returned to FTW and IHC. From '65-'75, worked at IHC (various jobs there: Assembly, machine operator, painter, truck repair, export packing and shipping, and 5 yrs as Computer Operator), while finishing work on a BS in Information Systems. In '75, after graduation, accepted position in St. Paul at Univac Naval Submarine Division with team developing the computers and systems for the Trident Submarine. After two year, I discovered I was really, dispite my military service, a true-blue, "peace-nik", and building machines for war was not my schtick. So, I moved into the business world again, doing programming/systems analysis, and managing projects. Had several jobs, moving up, but always in banking (I loved it!), until my last firm, (Norwest), merged with (Wells Fargo), in CA "allowing" me to retire in in 2000. From 2000 - 2007, tried several occupations for fun: Life insurance sales,Employer Benefits consultant, and spent a yr in communi...Expand for more
ty college learning Body and Fender work ( to restore my 1976 Datsun 280Z - a two-seat sports car!).
Somewhere in the years '78-2004, got married, raised 2 children thru college, buried first wife (Cancer), and married and divorced another. We moved a lot, bought several homes. always in the Saint Paul - Minneapolis area. Moved to a townhouse couple of years ago, but it was too small for all the junk and collections I had accumulated over the years. Soooo, I moved in, 2006, into a larger home with room for me and my "stuff" to spread out.
I used to come to FTW regularly, but I have slowed to once or twice per yr. I serve on the Board of two non-profits: one providing scholarships for economicaly-challenged lids; the other serves women and families with various problems-substance abuse, physical/mental abuse, and everything else.
I volunteer with a work team to go to the Caribbean two week each year--of course, always during our coldest winter months(last two wks of Jan). This is my 11th year. And that's it. This summer I will try to finish my Datsun.
Anything else you want to know, you will have to ask me.
Chao.
