Edward's Story

Life Born in Brantford, Ontario in 1947, I moved to Calgary in 1952. Attended Richmond, Killarney and Sir James Lougheed Schools before A.E. Cross Jr. High and at Viscount Bennett. Sr. High Schools. At Viscount Bennett I was active in The Booster Club and was awarded THE BOOSTER CLUB SHIELD and lettered in citizenship each year. Also active at both the Student Newspaper and Yearbook and was elected to the QUILL AND SCROLL SOCIETY for International High School Journalists. I also won a Scholarship to the Banff School of Fine Arts sponsored by the United Nations Association. At The University of Calgary I took Economics and received a B.A. before starting my M.B.A. as one of the first students in the Evening Program. I was active in Student Politics and the GAUNTLET Newspaper. I became the first Student Senator for the newly autonomous University Of Calgary. I later served on the U. of C. Alumni Board and was elected to its presidency and the University Senate 1975/76. I was appointed the University of Calgary BOARD OF GOVERNORS and served from 1977-1980. I was on the KILLAM Scholarship, the Chancellor's and President's search Committees. My association with U. of C. continues as I e established, in 2008,The Dr. E.C. Eddy and Mrs. Ruth E. Eddy Veterinary Medicine Scholarship, for their new Veterinary School, in memory of parents who worked to have such a school established in the 1960's. My career in the Energy Industry began at RANGELAND PIPELINE DIVISION of Hudson's Bay Oil and Gas Co. I moved on to become an Economist at THE ENERGY RESOURCES CONSERVATION BOARD and later held various Management positions at ALBERTA GAS TRUNKLINE CO. where I initiated regulatory applications including petrochemical and national and international pipeline projects. I also served on the Mount Royal Community Association Board. I was married for 15 years, but divorced after moving to take a management position at BC HYDRO AND POWER AUTHORITY, overseeing a successful application for the VANCOUVER ISLAND PIPELINE. After the takeover of the Gas Division of BC HYDRO by BC GAS INC., I was Gas Supply Regulation and Research Manager as well as President and CEO of Sumas International Pipeline Inc. in the U.S. and Huntingdon International Pipeline Corp. in Canada, both of which I started. I also served on Pacific Coast Gas Association Committees and was awarded their Bronze Metal for my efforts as a sponsor of a Workshop in California. I also started and was President of DATATRAIL INC., a Wireless Device Network company that began as a Joint Venture between BC GAS of Vancouver and XP COMMUNICATIONS of Calgary. I retired as President at the end of March 2004. I am now semi-retired and I am President of a consulting company called E.C. Eddy & Associates that specializes in Energy, Utility, Pipeline and Economics projects. I have appeared as an expert and policy witness in front of various regulatory tribunals including THE ENERGY RESOURCES CONSERVATION BOARD, THE ALBERTA UTILITIES BOARD, THE B.C. UTILITIES COMMISSION, THE NATIONAL ENERGY BOARD OF CANADA, THE U.S. FEDERAL ENERGY REGULATORY COMMISSION and THE U.S. FEDERAL COMMUNICATIONS COMMISSION. I am currently trying to publish a photo/travel book called "TED'S T-BIRD TOUR OF CALIFORNIA" which combines my interests in writing, photography and travel. It is being edited by my friend Gloria Dalton, my journalism teacher from Viscount Bennett High School. The third edit has 99 Chapters, 292 Pages and 658 Pictures. I wa a member of the Quayside Community Assn. Board in New Westminster. I live in a condo on the river. I also have an extensive library and Art Collection acquired on my travels and I had exhibits of my Flower Photography in the springs of 2005 and 2006 as well as 2008. I was a member of the CALGARY PROFESSIONAL CLUB, THE MEWATTA ARMOURIES OFFICERS MESS and an HONOURARY MEMBER OF THE LORD STRATHCONA'S HORSE SARCEE OFFICERS MESS. I still maintain a membership in the CALGARY GLENCOE CLUB. School Attended Richmond, Killarney and Sir James Lougheed Schools before school at A.E. Active in the Drama Club, I was in a play that won the Western Canada Regional Drama Festival and was "BEST SUPPORTING ACTOR". I also danced in a High Scool productions of "THE BOY FRIEND". I also won a Scholarship to the Banff School of Fine Arts sponsored by the United Nations Association. College At The University of Calgary started out in pre-law but switched to Economics and receivced a B.A. (Econ.) in 1972 after completing my last year at nights while working over 3 years. I then started my M.B.A. as one of the first students in the Evening Program. I was active in Student Politics and the GAUNTLET Newspaper. I became the first Student Senator for the newly autonomous University Of Calgary. I later served on the U. of C. Alumni Board and was elected to its presidency and the University Senate 1975/76. I was appointed by the Lieutenant-Governor-In-Council to the the University of Calgary BOARD OF GOVERNORS and served from 1977-1980. I was on the KILLAM Scholarship, the Chancelor's and President's search Committees and chaired the Appeals Committee. In recognition of the excellent training I received at the University, I have established endowments for Scholarships to the Universty of Calgary for Alberta resident entry students and students in Economics, Commerce Political Science and English. In rememberance of my parents, the late Dr. Edward C. Eddy and Mrs. Ruth Eddy, who worked hard to establish a Veterinary College ini Alberta during the early 1960's, I have established The Dr. Edward C. Eddy and Ruth E. Eddy Veterinary Medicine Scholarship for Alberta residents. This is the first scholarship established for the new Veterinary Medical Faculty that will begin accepting students in 2008. Workplace My career in the Energy Industry began at RANGELAND PIPELINE DIVISION of Hudson's Bay Oil and Gas Co. I also co-authored several board reports and advised the Provincial Government on oil pricing. I moved to hold various Management positions at ALBERTA GAS TRUNKLINE CO. where I initiated regulatory applications including petrochemical and national and international pipeline projects, including the Trans-Quebec and Maritimes Pipeline System Application to The National Energy Board. I was married for 15 years, but divorced after moving to take a management position at BC HYDRO AND POWER AUTHORITY, overseeing Gas Supply Regulation and Research. I also headed a successful application for the VANCOUVER ISLAND GAS PIPELINE. After the takeover of the Gas Division of BC HYDRO by BC GAS INC., I was Gas Supply Regulation and Research Manager as well as President and CEO of Sumas International Pipeline Inc. in the U.S. and Executive Vice-President of Huntingdon International Pipeline Corp. in Canada, both of which I started with Applications in front of both the National Energy Board Of Canada and the U.S. Federal Energy Regulatory Commission. I retired as President at the end of March 2004 when it was taken over by ASSETTALK of Calgary. I am now President of my consulting firm called E.C. Eddy and Associates Inc. specializing in Project Management, Energy, Pipeline and Utility Regulation. I am also President of the Raymond Burr Performing Arts Society which funds an annual Award to Theatre students at Douglas College in New Westminster, B.C.. After 25 years living on the Quay in New Westminster, where I was active in various community associations, including being a Director of the Hyack Festival Association, I moved to a larger place in Coquitlam.
