Edward's Story

A big " HELLO ! " to all of my fellow classmates from the Memorial High School Class of 1983. It's been such a very long time since I've seen most of you all . I'm long overdue for communication with everyone. I haven't attended any of the class reunions or fundraisers . I'm really sorry about that but I felt that I wasn't ready. I had so much going on in my life that before I knew it 41 years flew by me and here I am today finally sending out a message to all my fellow classmates. Let me start from the beginning. When I first entered highschool everything was so new and exciting to me. Besides having to go to class I also got a chance to meet a lot of cool people which eventually became my friends. I have a lot of fond memories of highschool. Back then I was really shy and kinda quiet because of it . I had a cool group of friends and we used to hang out. Everybody at school knew me by the nickname " Cowboy " . There's a story about how I got that name besides the fact that I wore cowboy shirts. Johnny Prado gave me that nickname back when I was at Truman Jr High in the eighth grade. It's a funny story . One of these days I'll tell you all about it. Those of you who knew me in highschool knew very well that I was heavily into music. I was influenced by The Beatles and also by Robert Perez. Everybody knows that he played at mostly all of the school talent shows. I wanted to have a band just like Robert Perez. At that point in time I already had an electric guitar. I taught myself how to play the electric guitar because at the time I didn't have any money for guitar lessons. After I graduated I went to San Antonio College and majored in Advertising Art for awhile but my heart wasn't into it. My life is all about music so I followed that path . I made my own Heavy Metal band called Assassin🤘😀🤘. I played electric guitar Rudy Munoz played bass guitar and Albert Castillo played electric guitar. We also had various people who played drums for us. We were all alumni from Memorial High School. We played at several parties and nightclubs. I played in many other bands throughout the years. I finally ...Expand for more
got married in 2011 . It didn't turn out the way I thought it would . Then finally in 2023 I got divorced. I've had a lot of ups and downs in my lifetime. You can actually make a novela about my life 😄😂🤣🤣🤣 I currently work at the University Hospital. Back in 2008 I won employee of the year . I was awarded $500 and a big crystal award. It's the highest honor that you can receive at the University Hospital. I've been working at the hospital for 21 years. I've got 6 more years to retire . I'm hanging in there. About six years ago Diana finally got a hold of me . She is the one in charge of the fundraisers for our class. She invited me to go to one of the fundraisers but I couldn't attend due to health issues I was having. I had an enlarged prostate so I had prostate surgery back in 2018. In 2022 I had surgery on both my left and right legs because of poor blood circulation. Back in April 19, 2023 a 30 pound box that was on a high shelf came crashing down on me and hit me directly on my left shoulder. It tore my rotator cuff and my tendons. I had surgery to repair my left shoulder. Workman's comp paid for the surgery and physical therapy afterwards since it happened at work. These past few years haven't been good for me. My dad had two strokes and died in 2017. The year after that my mom died in 2018 of natural causes. In April of 2023 my older brother Benjamin Jr died from complications of COVID. In less a month in May 5th my sister Gloria died from stage 4 ovarian cancer. Half of my family is gone and it just doesn't feel the same to me. So here I am today and I'm thinking of everyone who has come into my life and everyone who has died. I feel that the time is right for the shy one (me ) to finally reach out to all my classmates. Everything has come to a full circle to where it all began with my classmates from The Memorial High School Class of 1983 !!!! In closing I'd just like to say " I LOVE EACH AND EVERYONE OF YOU !!!! ❤️ ❤️❤️❤️" " BECAUSE EDWARD ( COWBOY ) GONZALES SAID SO !!!! PEACE AND LOVE TO YOU ALL 💗💗💗💗 GOD BLESS EACH AND EVERYONE OF YOU FOREVER AND EVER !!!! AMEN !!!!😉
