Edward's Story

Life Still married to Pam (Duley, THS Class of '66) for 42 years. Son and daughter and three terrific grandchildren. Many of you know I spent a little over 20 years with Detroit P.D. then came on-board with the U.S. Department of State, Bureau of Diplomatic Security in 1988. Very fortunate to have visited over 80 countries and did tours in Tunis, Tunisia, Beirut, Lebanon, Baghdad, Iraq, and Ciudad Juarez, Mexico. Hope to survive, then, God willing, retire for good. My tour in Baghdad ended abruptly with the death of my fellow State Department agent and close friend Ed Seitz, killed by a Cartousha rocket at Camp Victory. I had the sad honor of bringing him home. My family told me I was too old to jump in and out of "battle-rattle" every day and tote an M-16 machine gun like a 20 year old U.S. Marine. They were right. So now I am headed to the U.S. Consulate General in Ciudad Juarez, Mexico as a finish to my career with the Diplomatic Security Service. Hope I make it. For health reasons, the State Department allowed me to return to the Los Angeles Field Office for my "twilight" tour. I will retire from Federal service in June '08. Time do do the things I have waited for all these years. A lot of golf (I broke down, finally, and ...Expand for more
got a country club membership), some writing, home projects, then maybe teach part time at the local community college. After 40 years in law enforcement, I figure I deserve a little vacation. Of course, there will be time now for reflection, introspection and all things considered. It's been a life of incredible experiences, adventures and places, which most people will never know. It's been a helluva run. Well, folks, I made it. Retired from active Federal service, effective 1 July 2008. It took me awhile to realize I no longer had to go into the office, get up in the middle of the night to run an operation, or have to deal with my organization's burocracy. Now I play golf 3-4 times a week, take care of my own yard (I fired my lawn service company), go to cooking classes once a month and finally started my novel, which my wife has been been pestering me to do. Pam is a casualty of the Bank of America buyout of Countrywide, so she will be cut loose in June 2009 but with a one year severance package. In 2010, she will draw her retirement. In all my travels around the world, it's now time to see the parts of the USA I have not visited. Lots of road trips off the beaten path. This time, I will keep a journal. Life is good.

Found this old photo of our McClouth Steel baseball team. Probably 1958. They actually had tryouts. You had to be invited by one of the coaches. Kids were usually assigned to teams. Other teams got caps and shirts. Not an e
Four and one half years, U.S. Army. 1941 to 1945. Artillery and Combat Engineers. Thirty two months overseas. Thanks for your sacrifice, dad.
Not kissing ass has gotten me in trouble many times. I don't regret one word.
I'll play along. Had to dig out the yearbook. All of Coach Mac's wrestlers had have short hair. Must have borrowed one of my father's ties.

For every man and woman who honorably wore the badge, do not fear when this day comes.
Guess the guy on the right is what a cop should look like. I never looked like that.
Mom passed away in 2008. Sadly, the last couple of years were in a nursing home. She was from an era when family was everything. Always loving, nurturing and encouraging. My childhood was nothing but fond memories. Love you
Getting ready for the Super Bowl. A pot of my world famous chili, at least in my house. Cooking down and tweaking the spices. Just enough heat to get your attention. And Pam's corn bread on the side. Good eats!
My father recovering from a broken hip after a paratrooper jump during WW II. He has been dead for over 43 years. Miss him every day. Love you, Pop.
My Dad, Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri, summer 1941. Michigan National Guardsman, activated into regular Army prior to Pearl Harbor. Two years overseas in the Pacific Theater, not discharged until the spring of 1945.
A day late but wanted to post my mom's photo. Near the end of her life. Loving and caring, she was a mom in the truest sense. Miss her terribly.
Great grandpa Ed feeding great grandson Grayson. Every time he looks at me he laughs. I must be funny looking. LOL
