Edward's Story

Hello to all of you former classmates. I was going to say "OLD" classmates, but there is no point in rubbing in the obvious, right? Well, if you have lived to read this, congratulations! I hope all of you are well and have had a good life for the most part. I was born in Burien at the then Burien Hospital that is now Highline. Our family moved to Renton (SE Hill above Meeker Jr. High) when I was around 4ish. I've lived mostly in Renton and Kent my entire life, and am currently living in Kent, Wa. just a few miles from Kentridge High School where I graduated in 1979. I think I was most popular on the last day of school when I executed successfully, dressing up in a devils halloween mask and egging our then ruthless Vice Principle Mr. Barry Fountain. I thought then that he enjoyed kicking students out of school to much, as he did me for going skiing on Senior Skip Day. Those 10 days almost cost me my graduation because my teachers wouldn't let me make up critical tests I missed. I worked hard though to do as much extra credit as they would let me, and barely passed a critical class with a D-. I was determined to get even, but had to tell at least one person of my devious plan...so I told Mike Spencer that he should come watch right after 5th period. So Mike did come watch, and after the deed was done, he was laughing so hard when Fountain came out of his office with egg on his face, they naturally pulled him in the office for emediate interogation. They asked Mike if he saw who did this dastardly deed, and Mike said yes but couldn't answer right away because he said he was laughing so hard he was crying. So after asking Mike several times "Who did this!", Mike finally replied..."The Devil Did It!", and burst back into gut busting laughter. I told Mike not to tell anyone, but miraculously by the time graduation came that night, I drove myself to the ceremony not knowing what had happened after I departed, quite quickly I should mention. So when I arrived in the parking lot and got out of my car, fellow classmates started coming up to me and congratulating me for a job well done. Well, I guess ne...Expand for more
ws like that travelled fast. I of course had to deny everything, but after 40 years I'm certain that the statutes of limitations are long past, and Fountain is either gone or too old by now for retaliation. The fun part was that he handed me my diploma cover as I crossed the stage with cheers from the crowd. The after party was amazing too! (A special shout out to Joyce McLaflin...what a memorable night!). OK, I know that was a juvenile act of vengence that I know I would never do as an adult...wink...wink, but I was kind of a reble back then...lol. I went on to be an Auto Mechanic for a few years, various other odd jobs until I landed at Boeing in Renton as a Final Assembly Structural Mechanic for the next 13 years, I was married for about 7 years and have 2 beautiful daughters. I have built houses, had my own Handy Man business for about 10 years, and even worked in the North Cascades as a Sawyer with old growth timber. I went on to work as an Operating Engineer at the then new Seahawks Stadium and Exhibition Center in 2002, and was able to talk Paul Allen and Todd Leweikie into installing colored theatrical jells on the arch accent lighting. I decided being an Engineer suited me, so after my youngest daughter finished college, I put myself through college and earned 2 degrees in both Commercial and Industrial Engineering, graduating with multiple honors (Dean's List, Honor roll, 5 time Scholarship awardee, Student Senator, Engineers Club Founder and President...Who would have thought, Right?). I am now working a very cool job with great benefits for King County as the only HVAC Engineer/Technician at King County International Airport (KCIA)/Boeing Field in Seattle. So I'm setting myself up for a hopefully comfortable retirement, God willing! It's coming up fast it seems! So that is the short version, if you want to hear more details you will just have to ask, but I would like to know what all of you have been doing with your lives thus far. It's hard to believe it has been 40 years since I threw eggs (scrambled, no shells 😂) in Fountains face! Best wishes everyone! Peace and Love to all!
