Edward's Story
! I was at Midland from 1935 through 1941 or 2; I then transferred to Sever Prep and went to Classical High. I lived across the street from the north gate to Midland, so was never late to class. I had classes with Miss Emerson, Miss Beauregard (sp?), Miss Healey, Miss White, Miss Warner, Miss Mixter. I knew of Miss O-Leary, Mr. Brown, and one I can't recall. Wait... Mr. Couming (math). I have a vivid memory of making a calendar in Miss Emerson's kindergarden with "1936" stamped on it.
I recall particularly Miss White. I was in class 4A; the room was shared with class 4b. Miss White was talking about the solar system,...Expand for more
and it blew me away. I paid more attention to the half for which her discussion did not apply. It must have taken; I majored in Physics at Worcester Tech, spent two years in the Army at White Sands Proving Ground in New Mexico, then went to Indiana University to get a PhD in astronomy. Taught and researched most of my life at the University of IIllinois. I wish there were a way to thank Miss White.
Many who went ro Midland in my class also went to Classical High re-unions (Arnie Kramer, Marshall Silverman,
Joan O'Connor... ) A long list.
