Edward "Ted" Warren:  

Life Since graduation in '46: 4 yrs. at Stanford, one at U. of Toronto, then Army. Out in '54, at U.C. Berkeley, met my future wife,Mary Jane, went East to Johns Hopkins in '56, finished Ph.D. in 1961, starting teaching at Syracuse U. in '59, went to S.D. State in '63, teaching when JFK was murdered. Adopted three children between '59 and '63. Our daughter, Diane, was killed in an auto accident when she was 40. The two boys are well and enjoying life. Loved teaching, mostly the interaction with students. San Diego was a great place to live, but we also enjoyed Maryland and Upstate New York. Had to leave the cold climate because of my wife's health. She was a prof. of psychology at U.S.D. in San Diego. We left SD for a quieter life on the Oregon Coast. Mary Jane has been in ill-health since 1992, a disastrous infection followed by several surgeries left her in precarious health. Recently she has begun the slow decline of dementia and came close to dying in June and in September. Most of my time is spent around her care. College Very lucky to have gone to Stanford when it was still quiet and semi-rural. Remember how rural San Leandro and Hayward used to be? Thought I would do law, but got interested in poli sci, and then puzzling over supreme court decisions led me into philosophy, where I stayed. A wonderful time. Graduated ...Expand for more
