Edward's Story

I subscribed to Classmates to learn more about the lives of my 1963 friends. However, I was surprised that many of you were doing the same to me, so I decided to upload a few photos and write a few words. Many of you may remember me from being in almost every stageplay that Gene Duckworth directed. I also had a short stint DJing WCEN's "Grooveyard" (remember "Judy's Turn to Cry"), practiced flying lessons over the high school property, and drove a white Pontiac (with the windows down) through the Pixie blasting the song "Wipe Out." My college years were spent at Michigan State (where I studied fun,) Northwood College in Midland, where I studied economics, and Ferris State College, where I received a bachelor's degree in Advertising with a minor in Marketing. My early income came from being a technical director for WW-TV/WWUP-TV in Cadillac. My highlights were learning to ski, buying an XKE Jaguar, and meeting and directing celebrities from the Houghton Lake Playhouse. Later, I entered the WW-TV newsroom, broadcasting TV and radio news to lower and upper Michigan. From governors to baseball players, I got to know them all. My next job position found me accepting an account executive position with WKZO-TV in Kalamazoo. It was during that time that I met my wife, Janay. She had been a finalist in the Miss Teenage America Pagent, and while she was eleven years younger than I, we decided to get married on our first dinner date. We will celebrate our fiftieth wedding anniversary on August 10th, 2024. After marriage, I became a born-again Christian...Expand for more
, which changed my entire life forever. If you have received Christ, then you know of which I speak. My values changed; I left television and used my knowledge to create and run Christian content on radio, TV, newspapers, movie theaters, and flying banners behind planes. There is no sales pitch or manipulation here; it is just truth reaching the masses. Amidst all this, two people who were not keen on having a baby had one! From Kalen's first breath, she has been a blessing. Once again, Janay and my lives were changed significantly. Today, Kalen is a software engineer. I became the COO of a stock market publishing house and wrote a book on Forex trading. During Dad's later years, I entered the world of oil and gas production. These were wonderful years of bonding and fellowship. We have lived in a valley in Kalamazoo, on a mountaintop in North Carolina, on a beach in Florida, and now, for the last sixteen years, a few miles from Disneyworld. Janay has a doctorate in education and keeps busy with that while I actively apply the attributes I have learned over the years. We all exercise a great deal. If you go to Disneyworld or the surrounding area, watch for bike riders or hikers your age. It might be us! We can chat, and I can give you one of the lines from my senior play. Do you remember that? There was a picture in the senior yearbook as Woo Hoo Get from "The Yellow Jacket." I opened the play by saying, "May you breathe the air of free life." Unfortunately, life isn't as free as it was in 1963. I remember many of you, and my best to all!
