Edwin's Story
Life
After graduating in June of 1957, I worked some construction jobs and then went to work at the Mahwah Ford plant in September. I was laid off in December of '57 and worked in a Shell station on North St. near where the old Sears was until I went on active duty in the Navy in February '58. I served on an aircraft carrier, the USS Lexington CVA-16, in the Pacific until January of '60 when I was discharged. I met Gary Lewis on one of our stops in Hawaii.
I worked at various jobs for a year and a half before starting at OCCC. Paul Vignola and I were going there at the same time both having served in the military. Paul was in the Marines in Beruit while I was defending Taiwan and the off shore islands of Matsu and Quimoy.
I was at OCCC from 1961-1965 mostly part-time while I worked a number of jobs to pay expenses.
In September of 1965, I transferred to University of North Dakota where I earned my BA in 1967. I went back the following year to start Law School and completed my first year.
During that year I married Annette Beaulieu. We have been married for thirty nine years and have three children and one grandchild. Neither of our boys Peter and David, both in their thirties, are married. Our baby girl, Regan was married in 2003, and in 2006 she and her husband Pete had a baby girl named Cicely whom I babysit at least two days a week. I call her my little girl's little girl.

ty in June of 1968, I worked for U.S. Customs during the summer and taught high school in Emerson, Manitoba, Canada (my wife's home town). The following summer I was back working on the border and Customs offered me a full-time job as an inspector. I worked my way up to a higher position there and in 1972 I transferred to Washington, DC for three years. From there I transferred to Anchorage, AK in 1975, where I was in charge of all of the inspectors for the whole state. In 1982 I transferred back to Washington DC and I stayed in the Headquarters office until 1995, when I transferred to Cleveland. Our middle son had just graduated from Virginia Tech and our daughter had graduated from high school and was going to the University of North Dakota. David moved with us to Ohio but Peter stayed in Virginia. Regan only spent one year in N.D. (it was the coldest on record for the past 100 years). She finished her degree at the University of Miami in Ohio. That is where she met her future husband.
I retired the year Regan graduated from college, 1999. I started doing home inspections within days after my retirement. I worked for two different companies before starting my own. I have been in business for over seven years, but the market is getting so slow that I am preparing to retire again. In 2008 our son, David and wife Kate presented us with our second granddaughter, Lucy Ann Marie. She is a precious little girl.
