Elaine's Story
Life
Still married to Jim, (Visi 1963), 41 years! one son, one granddaughter. Dog. Retired from the Michigan Department of Civil Rights, and trying to get some road time on the RV, but Jim still has his elder law office and can't take a lot of time away.
College
I'm still in college. After getting a BA, trying out law school and court reporting, I got a paralegal certificate. Now I'm studying Anishinaabemowin, the language of the people of the Three Fires. It involves a lot of driving, as classes are in Okemos, Mt. Pleasant and Brimley. I've been on the Mackinac Bridge when the weather was so bad, I couldn't actually see the bridge. I developed a presentation for health providers on American Indians relating to mainstream health care, and HIV/AIDS in particular. This is something I present all over the state upon request. I wonder how many of you I have run into out there in the health care setting?
Someone asked me to post a story, well, here is a little more info. Although I was raised in the Soo, I finished up my last year and half of high school in Detroit. As time goes b...Expand for more
y, I have gotten to hate winter weather very much. I figured once I retired, I wouldn't have to go out if I didn't want to, but I found I want to go out a lot more than weather permits. I am counting times when the road out here has snow on it as bad weather even if the sun is shining. So, this past winter I rented a house in Titusville, FL and spent the month of February down there. It was great! The sun shone most days, and the thermometer never dropped below 60. Ginger the dog and I walked and walked, and oh, yes, we got to pick oranges in the yard. Tree fresh oranges for breakfast! I am now totally and completely spoiled. Titusville isn't a beach town, so it was peaceful and homey, with plenty of things to do and see in the area. The Shuttle launch was unfortunately postponed for over a month so we missed it. That's the story of how I spent my winter vacation.
Update: We bought a house in Titusville two years ago, and I can go there to get away from winter whenever I want. I blog about rehabbing the house, which is a fixer upper time capsule from 1963. See elaineswhim.blogspot
