Elizabeth Arlene's Story

Life Hi to all my old friends at school. Well, I guess I could give a small update about me. I'm currently going through my second divorce.(YEAH) My daughter,Erin, is now almost 20yrs old(Feb. 2007). My oldest son, Jason, is 18(Dec.3rd, 2006) and he graduates high school this year. I also have a set of fraternal twin boys named Sean and Jon. They will be 17 on Dec. 20th this year. I can't believe my kids are almost grown. I am currently working as an LPN at a nursing home in B'ham, Al. I love my job but I'm about to go back to school myself and get my RN degree. My ambition is to work in emergency care or the operating room. I have came a long way since highschool. I was always a little chunky in school but after graduation and having 4 kids I blew up to 343lbs. In April 2003, I underwnet gastric bypass surgery. Since the surgery, I have lost down to 138lbs. It has been an amazing and enlightening experience. I don't regret having the surgery. I am healthier now and feel almost like a teenager again(ha ha "almost"). My biggest accomplishment though are my 4 wonderful, beautiful, and intelligent kids. God has blessed me in many ways, but they have been the biggest blessing in my ligh next to my parents. In the photo I posted on here, I am the one on the right in the flowered hawaiian dress. The photo was taken in the spring of 2006 during national nurses week. As you may imagine, Hawaiian dresses aren't normal nursing uniforms(ha ha). I hope this will help me find out how some of my old classmates are doing now and make it a little easier to find me for reunion dates. It wo...Expand for more
n't be long until the 20th year will be here. It is hard to believe I have been out of highschool for almost 20yrs. I refuse to get old though, I think of myself as fine wine, I get better with age(ha ha). Take care all. Workplace I guess I will start with what I did right after graduation. I married and became a mom and housewife. We moved to Blount County and then on up to Marshall County. I went to work at a nursing home up there as a CNA. I divorced my first husband in 1993, and my children and I moved back to Forestdale to live with my parents. In August of 1993, I started nursing school at Bevil State Community College to become a nurse. I graduated nursing school in 1995, and went to work at Lloyd Noland Hospital. In April 1998, I remarried and bought a home in Fultondale. My aunt died in August 1999 and left my disabled mentally retarded cousin with no one to care for her. I decided to stop working and stay at home to take care of her and be at home with my kids more. During that time, to bring in extra money, I began keeping 2 Vietnamese children. Tony was 3 years old and Jenny was 14 months. Neither child knew how to speak or understand English. At first, I didn't think it was going to work out. Jenny cried all the time and would not let me put her down. Finally, though, things got better and I kept them for 5 years. My cousin died in January of 2006. I decided to go back to nursing and began working at Northway Health and Rehab, where I am still employed. I love my job, but my ambition is to further my education in nursing and work in trauma and emergency care.
