Just recently I have become disabled and wheelchair bound due to a severe back injury that I got from an auto accident in 1990. I had back surgery in 1991 to repair the damage. That lasted only about 2 years. As the years have passed, my back condition has worsen and now, my doctor insists that my back is beyond repair. I've only been using the wheelchair since August of 2005. Depression was getting the best of me but I won that battle. Now, my next battle to win is to be able to walk more than 15 - 20 feet before my back gives out. Yesterday (June 13, 2006) while babysitting my grandson, I got very bored and he was crabby. So I asked my husband to put Kaleb in his stroller so that I could take him for a walk. My husband asked if I'm sure that I wanted to do that. Yes, I was sure. I'm determined not to let my back injury get the best of me yet. After Trent got Kaleb in his stroller and outside for me, I let Trent know where I was walking just in case he needed to come find me. To my surprise, I was able to walk around the entire block without my back going out on me. It hurt like h-e-double hockey sticks, but I wasn't going to let the pain slow me down. Finally making back to my house, I sat down on my porch step and talked with Trent for about 20 minutes. I then asked him if he'd walk with me, cause I wasn't ready to go back in the house.
