Elizabeth's Story
I didn't actually graduate from Garinger but it's the closest thing I have to a home school - if my family hadn't been quite so nutty I would have graduated with this class. I spent some of HS in Austin, TX, a few months at Garinger, a few more at Independence and finished at CPCC in '73.
College was kind of the same. CPCC for a couple courses, Mitchell College in Statesville for 2 years and another 2 at UNC-Greensboro where I majored in music. (What was I thinking.)
I have 2 wonderful daughters. Margaret has her MSW from Virginia Commonwealth University and works with families that are trying to get back on thier feet after homelessness. Sarah chose the go-straight-to-work-and-make-some-money route. She's a whiz with computers, is back in NC and loving it.

tossed the 'divorced, single mom' hat and married a terrific guy who redefined marriage for me. He was and still is an important person in my girls' lives.
After 18 years of being the primary (sometimes only) bread winner, I was able to switch to working part time for a while. And now when folks ask what I do I tell them I'm a very content 'kept' woman.
In fall of 2008 I finished my third year of classes and became a Certified Master Gardener. I enjoy volunteering at Plant Clinics in local farmer's markets and manning the MG Hotline at the County Extension Office.
We think about leaving the crowds and traffic of the DC area and moving to NC so maybe we'll run into each other some time. That'd be cool.
Until then, my motto remains
