Ellen's Story

At Lundar I was very shy and awkward and to many I may have appeared immature and as a loner - except for a few close friends. In actuality I was not just the wallflower but - really a bud waiting to bloom!! I completed my Grade 11 and could hardly wait to get away from Lundar and all the people who did not recognize the "Budding" flower. While in High school, at age 15 I met and "fell in love" with the an older man (age 18) Art Henry, from Woodlands. It was love at first sight - and we were married in May of 1968 and lived in Winnipeg for a bit and then returned to reside in Woodlands until the present time. When I left Lundar, I went into Winnipeg and immediately started working - first as a waitress and soon after at Great west Life assisting in underwriting and calculation. In 1967 I left GWL and went to work as the accounts payable clerk at a Melrose Foods. Back in "those days" no one told me I needed a university degree and i worked myself into some excellent top positions - with grade 11 education and a winning attitude. I remained at work there unti August 1973 when our first shild - a son Craig - was born - (Craig married Val Thordardson from Lundar). Craig and Val have 4 childeren and reside by Stonewall. In Seprember 1973 we had a daughter (Carla Dawn - born in the CAR at DAWN on King Edward Street). Carla and her partn...Expand for more
er Nate reside in Winnipeg with 1 daughter and another daughter one on the way. In February 1977 we had another daughter Bonnie now married to Ian Huff). Bonnie lives in Woodlands 2 blocks away with their 2 girls and 1 boy. As the children went off to school , I got into home parties and sales and did very well over the years - eventually resorting to home sales - right from home - selling hunts - over the internet system and at sport shows. Art and i will be celebrating our 40th anniversary on May 18, 2008 and one of my favorite sayings is we have been happily married for 28 years (28 out of 40???- Not Bad!! eh?). But all in all life is great and we are all happy and healthy. Art and I run hunting camps throughout the north and have more recently downsized to a small camp in Gillam and a waterfowl partnership with Craig and another friend. Ellen spends her time on the computer and phone booking hunts for other outfitters for commissions - and as anyone who knows Ellen - she could sell igloos to the Eskimos - so people say. We particularly LOVE having time to spend with our grandkids - soon to be 9 in total. Family is most important of all and everything else is secondary. I look forward to seeing more stories on Lundar profiles - it only takes a few minutes and I know others will be looking for your story - so "just do it".
