Ellen's Story
6/27/08 After high school I attended ISU, I went to work for Northrup King as a production assistant for 4 years after that. Learned everything about growing seed soybeans and corn. Married my high school sweetheart, Rick, in 1989, too. 1990 found us smack in the middle of the Duck Creek flood (2x) in Davenport. We were waist deep in sewage and other yuck! Starting in 1993 we moved around several (read 4) times throughout IA and Il. Ended up here in IN in 1995. Rick started his software business in January 2001. I usually get back to Muscatine 1-2X/ year to visit my family. I guess the biggest surprise in my life is that I am not a career person. In high school and college I fully planned on working full time until it was time to retire at a ripe old age. I was never much of a kid type person either. I never would have guessed that I would enjoy staying home and being a mom as much as I do.

down the house, put up a new one and have been cleaning up the property for the last 5 years. I have 1 daughter still in high school, other 2 kids in college: Paul is Sr studying computer science at Cornell College w/ minor in foreign language and Maddie is freshman at Purdue majoring in animal science. I have created a full time job for myself, homesteading on just under 5 acres right in the middle of town. We have 4-H sheep (Suffolks and St Croix), a pony, Pekin ducks, chickens and a large garden as well as berries and fruit trees. We recently bought 155 acres of mixed timber, row crop and hay ground last summer. So far we are just using it for hunting (we are learning as a family) and Rick is learning how to get along w/ the big tractor and mower that came as part of the deal. 10/31/16 2 girls still in college, no kids at home currently. Rick working for Lenovo, looking forward to him retiring and staying home to farm one of these days. Acclimating to living out in the country again, after being a city dweller for 31 years.
