Ellen's Story
Life
(Written just before my end-of-April 62nd birthday, 2005) I'm no longer a goatkeeper and cheesemaker.. lifting big vats of milk and wrestling 185 pound goats is NOT good for my back. I miss baby goats and the sweet sound of contented does chewing their cud. I miss my homemade cheese, and now I have to buy my goat meat; but instead of tossing hay, I'm now tossing clay around. For 4 years I've been attending ceramics classes at Hartnell College.. still a rank amateur, but enjoying myself immensly. My husband Dave and I have a big, aromatic Mediterranean garden and too many dogs.. 4 geriatric dogs and a big Gordon Setter/Aussie pup. A herd of 11 guinea pigs makes manure for our garden, 7 hens eat snails and lay delicious eggs, and in my senior years I have become an overworked cat door for our rotten bossy cat.
My 1972 model son is an RN at CHOMP, a passionate surfer (just got back from quake relief and ...Expand for more
surfing in Indonesia), a rock climber, and long-distance bike rider.. athletic ability he did NOT get from his mother. I love to cook and feed friends.. am very casual.. still don't wear shoes unless I must. I believe cotton shirts and sweatpants to be the perfect uniform and I don't own ANY makeup.. not even a lipstick. So.. what did you expect of the girl who milked a cow before she caught the bus? I drive my first-ever new car, a 1990 Subaru Legacy stationwagon bought in '89, that still gets 32 mpg on the highway and goes lickity split.. important for crossing 101 in Prunetucky where I live. Prunedale reminds me of Carmel Valley back when Carmel didn't want us!
I'm really surprized that so few of us have included biographies. Frankly, at my age I could care less about salaries and acquisitions. I'm a lot more interested in stories and lessons learned, and values discarded and kept. I do answer e.mails!
