Ellen's Story

While a junior in HS, I took all the interior design classes offered at the local JC. In my senior year, I spent 2 months in Stuttgart, Germany. Thereafter, I moved to the Monterey Bay Peninsula for a few years before moving to Frankfurt, Germany where I lived 7 yrs. I worked FT for the U.S. Government while attending night school at the University of Maryland - European Division. Three yrs later, I earned a BS in Business Mgmt w/a dual minor in Government & European Art History. I enjoyed the two full-time schedules (work & school) and party hardied too! During semester breaks, I visited relatives in The Netherlands or had fun in Amsterdam. I embraced the German mindset: Work hard and play hard. I also enjoy traveling immensely. Whether backpacking through Europe (3 months in '82), German/Italian/Swiss Alps, Mallorca, Tunisa (Africa) and Canary Islands or staying at 5-star luxury hotels (Celebrity's penthouse suites or 1st class travel) -- all is good. I scaled Stromboli (an active volcano north of Sicily) -- enjoy meeting people of diverse cultural background and political thought. Engaging in political discussion is my achilles heel, since I am a "political junkie" :) Not sitting still, I did a Masters in Marketing in San Francisco while employed FT for a major computer company in Silicon Valley eventually retiring when I was 44 -- I do not intend to "work" at least for a living. husband and I like to work around our 5-acre property in the Santa Cruz Mountains. During summer months, when the coast is fogged in, we are above the fog line. We enjoy the peace and tranquillity as we look down into Monterey Bay covered by a huge and fluffy comforter. In the last several years, we traveled to NE China; chartered a Boeing 757 circumvented the world; spent 5 weeks in Thailand and SW China, and taught English to Chinese high school kids. We currently sponsor 9 Chinese kids to pursue higher education. For my birthday, we spent a week on the Big Island and were ~50 ft from where lava flowed into the ocean thereby creating new real estate. The intensivity of the 2,500-degree lava was a remarkable experience. We did a quick one-week to San Jose del Cabo leaving before the cat 5 hit. Discovered tamarindo tequilla - yummy! This past December/January, we spent another month in Thailand. We spent Christmas and New Year's in Chiang Mai and then the remaining time snorkeling in the Similan Islands off the coast of Phuket. It was simply THE BEST, with crystal blue waters swimming next to turtles, eels and an abundance of colorful fish too many to describe. Guess we'll need to stay home a while :( We're having some major renovations done for the next several months. However, it will not deter us from extended weekend getaways to Hawaii or to the South Pacific -- well, maybe more than 4 days...
