Ellyn's Story
Life
Travel has always been a joy whether for work, study or pleasure. I've lived in six countries and traveled to thirty-three. The last place I lived was in China for two years teaching English in a "Key" high school in a city of three million people, small as Chinese cities go.
Last summer I took a short retreat, one week in Martha's Vineyard with friends from DC and one week on Cape Cod with an old friend from high school.
My first trip outside the U.S. was to a summer study program for college students in Puerto Rico with students from the Northern and Southern Hemisphere. It was six weeks of intensive study on the culture, education, industry and social life of Puerto Rico.
The next time I traveled was two years after college. I worked to raise the money to travel through most of Europe and lived in Paris for a year, studying and working in a dance company. Then I took a four month sojourn to East Africa before returning to the States.

gree at Columbia. I took a scupture course in Italy for six weeks. It included traveling around the country on weekends and learning about the architecture and culture of the country.
Another trip was on a vacation to the Canary Islands with friends. A short but adventurous experience. Also visited different places in the Caribbean for various vacations including Trinidad and Tobago, Jamaica, Mexico and Puerto Rico. I spent one summer in Mexico as well with my aunt and uncle who lived there for ten years working on different archeological sites. My aunt was an archeologist and my uncle an engineer.
Next summer I'm planning to go back to Japan and China to visit friends and see some new as well as already seen sites.
Since I am an art teacher, it is possible for me to take time and travel on short trips around the New York City area during the school vacations and more extended trips during the summer. I enjoy teaching art very much and especially when I see the output of the young children I work with during the school year.
