Elma's Story
I live in Harbor City, California. however I was born at Francis E. Warren A.F.B . in Cheyenne Wyoming. I started school a tBitburg A.F.B. in Germany. When my dad was re-assigned at Vandenberg A.,F.B., I attended Crestview Elementary, Loma Vista Elementary, Vandenberg Elementary and Vandenberg Jr. High schools. My favorite teachers at Vandenberg A.F.B. were Mr Buntrock who insisted on us marching daily. I enjoyed Mr. Vose's Science class which was so interesting I will never forget him.
After my dad retired from the Air Force we settled in Los Angeles and I attended Gompers Jr. High. I worked for the Watts Labor Community Action Commitee every summer and after school. Thank God for TED WATKINS. After graduat...Expand for more
ing from Gompers I went to Jordan High and Locke High Schools. Eventually I ended up back at Jordan High and graduated in 1970. I started my career with the City Of Los Angeles in August of 1970.
I worked for the City Of Los Angeles for 36.9 years. In 1971 I married my high school sweetheart, we have two children and one grand daughter.
After retiring from the City Of Los Angeles, I became bored, I went back to work and drove a school bus for First Student. Then I worked for a non profit organization, Life Steps Foundation as the Transportation Coordinator, for Circle Of Friends. That was the best job I ever had working with the elderly. The Center was closed in February of 2012, and that ended my working career.
