Elyse's Story
Life
Time to update this thing. I live in Doraville, GA, or Dorkville, as I call it. I've been divorced for almost 2 years. My kids are grown now, ages 21 and 25. I'm so proud of both of them. They are my heart. Feel free to contact me anytime.
School
I went to Ritta Elementary for 8 years from 1964-1972. I had some really great teachers in elementary school, including Miss Truan, Ms. Yarbrough, and Ms. Brooks. I also had a really bad teacher who shall remain nameless, but she had red hair and taught the second grade for those of you who are familiar with the school. I really think she was sick. She did not belong in teaching. Thank God for all the good ones out there!
College
I finally completed my B.S. degree in the spring of 1982, after a couple of semesters of dropping out for personal and financial reasons. My grandmother agreed to help me financially the second time at the request of her sister. I went to St. Mary's School of Nursing after that. What an opportunity and a blessing! I like being a nurse, but wish I could do something a little different sometimes ...Expand for more
related to healthcare policy. I went back to college in 1999 and graduated with my Master in Public Administration degree in December of 2002. I think I am done, but who knows? I still think I'm done with school, but if my employer tells me I have to get a degree, I guess I'll be an educated almost 60 year old. Yippee...
Workplace
I worked at St. Mary's Medical Center for several years as a nurse, then moved to the Atlanta area in 1989, 8 weeks after the birth of my daughter. In Atlanta, I have worked in several organizations and hospitals. Currently, I work for Shepherd Center, a 100 bed rehabilitation hospital. I take care of people who have experienced a catastrophic event in their lives. Most are quadriplegic as a result of a car accident or another type of accident. I became certified in Rehabilitation Nursing, earning my CRRN credentials. Nursing is so versatile---you can go in any one of a hundred different directions. And in my almost err...30 year career in nursing, I have worked in a variety of places. I'm now working a desk job for the first time in my career.
