Emily's Story
I was born in California on December 2, 1973, to Dennis and Melody Downing. I was the first daughter born to my parents after my two older brothers were born. I moved to Boise, Idaho in 1980.
The first school I remember attending was Koelsch Elementary in Boise. Later, my parents moved to 4948 Maverick, in Boise and I attended Lake Hazel Primary, Lake Hazel Elementary and finally Silver Sage Elementary. My parents divorced when I was in 4th grade. After elementary school, I attended Lake Hazel Junior High and Meridian High School.
During my junior year at Meridian High, I became pregnant and transferred to Booth Memorial High school for my senior year. While I was in high school, I worked at Burger King. During the fall of my senior year, I gave birth to Carson in 1991. After finishing my 1st semester of my senior year, I moved to Michigan with my aunt and uncle. I lived there for 9 months while I completed a couple of credits and finished high school.
I, then, returned to Boise and met and married Frank Madsen III, in 1993. We added a second child, Britton, to our family in 1994. I had just started working at Micron Custom Manufacturing Services (MCMS). Frank and I moved to Meridian, Idaho and in 1997, we added our last addition to complete our family when Denn was born. In 1999, Frank and I bought our first house in Nampa, Idaho.
I was raised a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints (LDS), however, I drifted from church shortly after I had Carson. It was a slow transition, but I felt that God would never forgive me for having Carson and I was reminded of that often inside the walls of church. The lack of peace and joy was on my mind a lot and I lost interest in an organization that did not give these things to me.
In 2000, I was invited to a church my friend attended and that night I realized my need for Jesus and that I was a sinner in need of a Savior. Jesus found me i...Expand for more
n the state I was in and gave me the joy and peace I had been longing for all my life. Jesus keeps His word when He says in John 14:27, Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid. He left me with peace. Peace that only He can give. I was baptized into Christ in 2002, in the Boise River on a warm, peaceful Sunday afternoon.
I quit my job at MCMS 2001, and opened a daycare in my home. I met a lot of wonderful families and had a great time. In 2002, Frank and I made a difficult decision, guided by God, to close my daycare and quit his job and go back to school full-time, so we moved our family back to Boise to start school at Boise State University fall of 2002. We moved to Meridian in 2005 while we finished up school. We both graduated from Boise State University with B.S. in Biology, Human Emphasis in 2007.
The next big step in our lives was to move across the country to Connecticut. I don't think we could have moved much further from family--and still be in the US!
I got a job as the Director of Quality Assurance at a very small medical device manufacturer (my dream job!) in Connecticut, so Frank and I and our kids made a very long drive across country from Idaho to a small town in Connecticut.
Out of the blue, I received a call from a recruiter for a job in West Valley, Utah. This was a huge surprise and within a couple months we were heading BACK across the country and I am now working in a larger medical device manufacturer as their Quality Manager. We are living in Draper, Utah.
The only regret I have had in my life was that I didn't go back to college sooner, but I feel that if I had I would have never picked the degree I did and I would never have the great job I have! So, I can't even complain about that!
I have been fortunate to have good health and I am satisfied with my life thus far.
