Emily's Story
Life
Grew up in Richmond, Va, went to Crestwood Elementary, Providence Junior High, Manchester High and then a new high school was built: Monacan. 1981 was the first graduating class!
Went to Mary Washington for a year and then VCU. Great years learning, exploring and being crazy.
The day after my last exam, I drove across the country and lived in Seattle for 6 months -- a pre-Grunge, pre-Microsoft Seattle (and Starbucks was only selling coffee from street carts).
Came back East and lived in DC for a couple of years. Then went on a 6-month adventure to New Mexico.
Returned to DC for a great job doing PR for the American Society of Travel Agents. I traveled to fabulous places all over the world and stayed in the best hotels, but always off-season: I was in Istanbul during a blizzard, Cairo during 120-degree weather, and the Caribbean during hu...Expand for more

A few years later, I found myself in NYC managing communications for American Express. Worked hard, played hard, learned tons!
Next came the internet revolution and I joined a start-up -- the experience of a lifetime. Raised funding, built staff, launched successful ad, pr & marketing campaigns, but ultimately the bottom fell out of the market and I managed the exit strategy.
Then had one bad year at a high-tech company (the ceo was indicted by the SEC!).
In 2003, I returned to Virginia to be closer to my family when my folks had health problems. Worked at World Access for 3 1/2 years, as vp of marketing and communications.
Just joined a marketing, branding communications and creative services firm called Trellis Agency. I'm a partner and it's a totally new gig for me. Loving it... definitely contact me if you want to do business!
