Eric's Story

Life After graduating from San Francisco State with a BA in Theatre Production Mgmt, I started working for my dad's property management company, West Coast Property Management. I continued doing theatre for several more years with local groups and companies, but the rehearsal and show load eventually got to me. I am hoping that I can get back to theatre work again in the future. I bought the company from my dad in 1993 and the business has grown dramatically since then. We're now also a maintenance/general contracting company and I'm developing a real estate sales company. Our offices continue to be in San Francisco, although we've moved a few times in order to allow for expansion. I married Karen in 1993 and we started our lives in a house in Millbrae. When Karen became pregnant a year later we got closer to her family by moving to Orinda. We now own what was, in 1996, a brand new home in Moraga and although the commute to San Francisco every day is a hassle, I wouldn't give up the "rural" life for anything. We have three children. A son, born in 1994; and two daughters, one born in 1997 and the other in 2001. We spend a lot of our spare time at our second home at Clear Lake, where I always went as a kid. We enjoy traveling a lot, too, with annual trips to Baja, Mexico and Maui, Hawaii. Karen has family in New York and Florida, so we make regular trips across the country and to visit family in Sweden and Norway. We like to snow ski, too, and Karen's parents have a cabin up near Bear Valley. I have served as the president of the San Francisco Apartment Assoc, and as President of the California Apartment Assoc. When I was the president of the Professional Property Mgmt. Assoc. several years ago I was honored to have the challenge of writing what has now become San Francisco's s...Expand for more
tandard apartment rental agreement as well as another agreement for use in Oaklan. I also spend a lot of time dealing with San Francisco's unique political environment - and its politicians! - and I am quite active representing my industry at the State level where, at least most of the time, the politicians are a little easier to work with. At home I am kept busy as an Assistant Scoutmaster for my son's Boy Scout Troop; and I serve on our elementary school's Board and on the board of the Moraga Education Foundation. Karen stays way too busy with girl scouts, soccer, the kids' church activities, school events and field trips and just being a great mom. Now there's a job I don't think I could tackle, but she sure handles it well! Thanks, Honey! We all enjoy attending our local church, where I have "produced" concerts with nationally known singers/groups. Karen and I also teach Sunday School classes when we can and we really enjoy the camaraderie with other members of the congregation. I look forward to a hopefully early retirement - as long as the kids can get through colleges of their choices - and Karen and I hope to spend our retired years traveling and living in other countries around the world. Workplace I took over my family's property management business in 1993 and have now expanded to three companies - property management, property maintenance and general contracting, and property marketing/sales. We specialize in caring for San Francisco residential properties with almost 3,000 apartment units in more than 300 properties in the portfolio. I am also very active in local and state industry organizations and I have served as the President of the Professional Property Management Association, the San Francisco Apartment Association and the California Apartment Association.
