Eric's Story
I currently live in Las Vegas, NV and work as a licensed marriage and family therapist. Since graduation, I have completed three college degrees and have had many interesting experiences.
I earned my associate's degree from Olympic College in 1983, focusing on history. I then served a bilingual mission for the LDS church in Houston, TX in 1984 & 1985.
After returning home, I continued my education at Brigham Young University in Provo, UT. I graduated there in 1989 with a bachelor's degree in political science and a minor in communications. While there, I met and married a wonderful young woman.
For the next three years I struggled to find good employment and decided to return to school. From 1992 to 1994, I attended Eastern Washington University in Cheney, WA and earned my master's degree in applied psychology with an emphasis on clinical counseling. While finishing up my degree, my wife decided to divorce me, in early 1994.
I then moved back to Utah and worked for the state division of family services in child welfare. After a few months, I accepted an offer to work as a therapist counseling sexual abuse victims and court-ordered sexual offenders.

Significant health problems interfered with completion of that degree and I eventually had to withdraw from the program. I was able to complete the necessary classes in order to qualify for my current license.
For one year, I took a break and worked for my parents in their print shop in Bremerton. I then moved to Las Vegas, arriving here the weekend after the 9/11 attacks. I worked temporary jobs while studying for my licensing exam.
I successfully passed the exam in late 2002 and began my internship in early 2003. I received my license in July 2005 and have been working at LDS Family Services for seven years. I also do some counseling privately and love the profession I have chosen.
I have remained unmarried since 1994 and maintain close contact with my family. My parents recently bought a 21-acre ranch in southeastern New Mexico and are building an orchard. I have two younger brothers: one is married with three children and lives in St. Louis and the other is married with three children and lives near Ft. Hood in Texas.
A severe highway accident this past summer (2009) has left me with neck and back injuries and I am in the process of recovery. My faith has helped me to cope with these experiences and allowed me to be a happy person.
